There's 3 camps in GI Joe: the cartoon camp, which pretty much eat anything that's on the table, the comic camp, which follows the Arashikage mythos and characters like the Hard / Soft Master and Billy, that didn't have an 80's figure but were an essential part of the lore, and you have the file card camp, who just need the bare-bones essentials for the character, and prefer to let imagination do the rest.

Today's Ebay listings have shown that the impatient are actually getting patient and not jumping on high listings or getting into lame bidding wars.
17 auctions in my group. $1,434.89 for an average of $84.40 Highest: $94 Lowest: $76.95 Also some sellers are doing free shipping. I can also easily spot sellers who are scalpers simply by their amount of figures and the shipping costs. So in the last 24 hours, the average price has dropped by $9.17 If you're looking to get this figure on Ebay I'd be a bit more patient since I can see this figure being available in the 60 range (only 20 above cost). Which is a deal compared to the suckers who rushed in and paid 100 dollars or more. LMFAO!!!! |

Killer robots are a stable of sci fi (even if Transformers are not quite the same thing.. that they exist in the same scenario is helped by the BAT existing. & The cartoon had killer robots too i'd note. I think one could perhaps argue the SNAKE suits can be put on autopilot too. Ninjas and Ninja-Commandos are a weird quirk of Gi Joe but there is certainly some similar things in action Movies over the years I guess. But I won't disagree that Ninja's vs Soldiers is a little strange but if you think it through as say the Night Creepers especially they are a kind of cult, but also mercenaries of a kind too and they function well enough as thieves, spys and assassin in the 1980's context. These days you might want to make them a bit more tech-Ninjas and more tech savvy jewel thief like tropes too. As technology has moved on. But as Basic assassins they work fine in their own context. Mind Control is very much in keeping with the spy tropes and I have no issue with that, someone had likely bee watching Star Trek too. Actually Gi Joe is perhaps not a million miles away from Star Trek TOS in tone & in some cases even in content. It has people being replaced, spy stuff, killer robots, lots of Red/Green shirt deaths (less so in the cartoon I guess) They even both share Humanity not being the 1st (main) sentient species on Earth in both franchises (not counting proto humans and whales). I don't want GiJoe to embrace to much of the Bionic Man, Mission Impossible stuff though - but a bit of it doesn't hurt to much. I bet GI Joe would be very very different if being invented now. |

I'd add a few more to that as well. Some of us might prefer a specific lore for lore's sake, but enjoy it all. Then there's the people who ignore everything and just like the toys (I don't count them as "filecard" people, since they couldn't tell you anything beyond names). There're also the camps that prefer non/pre/post-ARAH, too.

I'm like Disney Star Wars now, picking and choosing what to take from the old lore without having to embrace all of it. They take Thrawn but reject The Vong. I accept that Jinx trains blindfolded per the movie, but Cobra La isn't part of my Joe lore.

I'm in the same boat with physical media, though. I have a fairly large collection of games (for current systems) and blu rays. I sell the older gaming equipment, when new stuff comes out. It's not that I don't still enjoy playing it, but a lot of it can be purchased digitally. That, and I only have so much storage space and free time. |

There are those whose Cobra Commander is Rex, brother of Baroness. Or for whom Extreme is the be-all-end-all. Some consider Super Joe the apex of the brand. Where do you fall Nam? |

Yeah I kind of reject the whole Baroness' brother and Snake Eyes storyline, it was just too "soap opera" at that point. And I never liked all the Fred stuff, even as a kid. There's the real CoCo, and that's it.
