I honestly wonder if a two-tiered Haslab could be used to give us a second repaint of a vehicle. I know that I would have payed out for a Tiger Rat repaint on the Rattler. Since the engineering is already done, it shouldn’t be too hard to offer the option to buy a second version for another $250 or so. It’s kind of disappointing that we will likely never see any of these Haslabs in their variant versions.

I would hesitate on a snow-based HasLab. Maybe they could build to that by first introducing the Polar Battle Bear and Iceberg and some other snow Joes, but right now the theme just isn't there for me with only SNowjob, Snow Serpents, and Arctic BATS. And, if they were going to have figure pack-ins, I'd rather they be arctic versions of other mainline characters (Scarlett, Duke, Lady Jaye, Flint, etc.).
I feel like water has been a touch more explored with Shipwreck, Torpedo, Action Diver, Cottonmouth, and Eels and a bunch of characters that could be right at home in a sea to land assault vehicle. I think an updated MOBAT or Mauler is the most likely next HasLab and then I hope they go water. After that, if they want to go in on specialty environment vehicles like arctic or desert, I might be more interested, but on face value they don't have the same appeal as the more temperate environment decos. |

What was the other feedback like when it was shown?
I do think the 2 color idea was a good one.

I feel the same way and I hope they don't try and float a 200 dollar Thunder Machine as a Haslab or something like that, it would feel like a waste of a year when something like that would likely do just fine at wide-release online retail.

I think a hybrid between the Mauler and MOBAT is an interesting idea. I would likely support it but I would probably be more interested in an updated Mauler with the option to buy it in both tan and olive green. I worry that a hybrid between the two might lose the iconic feel of the original. The Mauler and the MOBAT are two very distinct vehicles. I’m any case, the option of choosing different colour variants for future has lane is extremely appealing to me.

The irony is, everybody claiming it "didn't feel like a HasLab" wouldn't be saying this if they'd included the Ant-Man/Wasp 2-pack we just got and slapped an extra $30-$50 onto the price. We all know why the Giant Man HasLab was what it was. Legends needed the win after the HellCharger bombed.

I prefered the release strategy of Giant Man. I'd rather have the main release and then be able to buy the tier figures, especially important characters and army builders, separately.

Is there any reason a future Haslab couldn't be a "Versus" style offering? People keep saying the Snow Cat is too small to be a Haslab but what about something like the Snow Cat vs the Cobra Wolf. Toss in an extra figure per side.. that's not a bad offering in my opinion. You could skip light up features but still offer working treads or whatever it takes to make two come in at the right price. I for one would love to have an even playing field right out of the box, instead of waiting each year for the side to alternate.
In my perfect world I don't think a Haslab has to be a giant vehicle to be viable. It just needs to be things we aren't likely to get outside of the crowd funded style offering, and it has to seem like a good value comparatively.

HasLabs should be showcases for the line -- absolute showstoppers. I don't think Giant Man got there. I also think the pool of Joe vehicles that fit the description of "dream projects" is pretty small at this point. The HISS was easy. The Dragonfly and Rattler were good bets. Anything else is going to be a gamble to see if it can bring in enough interest. |
