As for Classified, I think the chance of it holding any value long term is probably zero. The majority of buyers are adults nostalgic for toys we had as kids. There is not going to be a huge swell of middle-aged kids in 40 years looking to pick up Classified figures they played with as a child. Not only are kids specifically not playing with Classified, but toys in general just don't occupy the same imaginative space and importance as they did when we were young and didn't have the internet, streaming, and video games competing for our childhood dreams.

I would kill to have social media be prominent during the launch of the 25th, TVC and MOTUC lines. If you think the outage today is bad, it is mild. Those who saw the matty screen of death know what I am talking about. Imagine waiting for the 15th of every month for ONE FIGURE to be released and it sells out in less than 5 minutes.

Yeah.. he's a great kid.. I wrote that sort of sarcastically. I think I was just doubling down on the fact that his generation "in general" do not care about toys in the slightest.

I've been a gamer my entire life, but never stopped me from being a toy kid either. But we weren't inundated with technology.. and it wasn't as portable.

what about the free for all at SDCC.? how many have experienced it.? late 2000's was when it started and imagined the vitriol that would have been posted online if social media was around. I went thru it from it's infancy to what it is now. online is way easier then in person in so many ways. unless you have delt with it in person, that's a whole experience in itself.

Well gaming and electronics are huge, but my kiddo is still very much into toys and she's 8. American Girl and Barbie. Now whether it will hold her nostalgia interests? Who knows.

Yeah, same here. I definitely opened the HISS and display it but because this is the most "special" JOE related thing we've had in a long while, I saved the box for it. That is something I never do. I don't give a shit about packaging. But one day, if I were to sell it to a future fan, I'd like them to have the box for the first ever 1/12 scale HISS tank and the boxes for the figures. It would be a bonus if I made a little bit of money off it.

I suspect video games/technology in general played a part in killing off toys for kids. They advanced from arcade-style games like Pac-Man and Frogger in the early 80s to something that could suck you into a world that didn't take much imagination to be entertained for hours on end. Then the social aspect of online gaming made them even more addictive.

When I started playing RPGs in the late 80s/early 90s that's all I wanted to do after school. I had my GI Joe collection displayed on shelves but didn't really do much with it after that. Just the occasional figure here and there.

The big shift for me was Nintendo coming out in the mid-1980s. I was in the middle of GI Joe but that definitely served as an enoyable alternative that I did not have to that point. Atari was cool but Nintendo was next level.

I dont think you could be more correct , while i was still buying joes here and there and not on the reg , i do remember playing my atari 2600 and then coleco vision and nes etc .ive been a life long gamer both in the arcades in the 80?s-90?s and all the home versions .. the graphics nowadays are crazy and i love every minute of it ..
