Never.. not one bit. In fact I'm firmly of the mind that if you collect for things to be valuable they very likely never will be. Sure there's money to be made from people that are impatient, but collecting for future value is a fools errand (just my opinion). Fandom is too fickle, and too many people have the same idea to try and hold on to everything. When piles of this stuff is around 20 years from now.. it's all going to be worthless.
I have basically 3 criteria for my collecting habit. 1. Is it cool? 2. Can I afford it? 3. Do I have space for it? Had to shorten it a bit .. I have some stuff that has high value or whatever some of my old master replica stuff and a few older haslabs and my hasbro deluxe cloverfield monster .. but i bought that stuff because thats what my interest was in @ the time . Now i could give a shit about the khettanna or some of the MR stuff . I should just sell it and be done with it but that would require some work/time that im not in the mood to give right now .. My philosophy is should i buy it , gf shakes her head in my mind . Do i want it .. yes Do i need it .. no but i want it .. Can i afford it , yes but do i still need it NO , but i still want it . Soooooo What about space for it , well you could hang it from the ceiling or sell some of your shit and make space for it , nope i just rotate whats out and whats in the closet in my hobby room . Gf still shakes her head ? Im complicated and she knows it

I was tempted to sell my Vamp now and wait for another run, then was like what if they never do another. It's too awesome not to own imo. I like it more than the Stinger.
Retro Snake Eyes also sells for double retail or more currently, and the last time he was on Walmart.com he was only $14.

Serious question, does anyone here actually care about scarcity or future value of an item when they buy it?
I'm wondering if I am the norm, or an outlier. But I don't give two flying fucks if any of this stuff will be worth money later. Like, I didn't want OAMCC because he's a hard to acquire exclusive. I just wanted the figure because it looks cool. Do people who go to comic con care about exclusives? Is that why they even go to begin with? I guess a bigger question would be why do people still go to SDCC in general? I like a good convention, but not the ones that I have to shell out hundreds to fly across the country to attend. Not to mention fighting all the crowds and the exorbitant rates for everything all along the way. Genuinely curious if anyone here who doesn't live in California or a neighboring state and doesn't work for this site attended the show and why. For California locals, I get it, but if you live on the East Coast, there is just no incentive to go to SDCC. Anyways, back to my point, I collect this stuff because I like it and it makes me happy in the present day. I guess if it retained some value there would be some reassurance that I could offload all of this crap in the event of a financial emergency and recoup some of the cost spent, but I pretty much never think of this. Every time I buy a new figure, I consider that money gone, never to return. There's been a lot of talk over the past few days about exclusives and if we're entitled to them or not. Some say that exclusives SHOULD be hard to get. Or that you shouldn't expect to get one at retail if you didn't attend the show. I agree to a certain extent. I suppose it depends on the exclusive. I have managed to nab all of them so far, one way or another. However this Once A Man Coco is an example of a solid exclusive. This figure is representative of a main character who looked like this for maybe an hour of runtime, maybe less. He was subsequently turned back to human form with the DIC series. In my opinion this is the perfect deep cut exclusive. This is not a collection defining piece in my opinion. On the other hand, Mindbender and Serpentor are core characters that would rightfully piss off a lot of people if this was the only way to get it. Same with Chuckles to a degree, although I know a lot of people don't love that character as much as I do. |

I do sometimes worry that the value of my figures will be worth so little that I'm giving them away for pennies on the dollar when I retire from collecting, like I do with my containers of loose and boxed sprots cards and "#1" comic issues from the 90s my dad foolishly invested in. Or all those Episode 1 Darth Mauls I bought as a teen hoping to flip and pay for college with LOL. But what can you do? I doubt in 25 years kids from today will give two shits about "nostalgia" unless it's some re-release of their favorite gatcha mobile game or something? |

Same. Alot of my Star Wars stuff was just unopened because I didn't have the room, and now supposedly it's got a high value (that nobody seems to actually want to pay at toy shows but I digress).
The only time I have bought something figuring it would go up in value was an old Sideshow Cammy statue in the early 2000s. And that was irrelevant because I wanted it anyway, but I figured it would probably jump in price if I didn't act on it right then. And I was correct. And I'm still not selling it. |

I passed on the Sideshow Lord of Darkness premium format figure because of money mostly. I always liked the movie Legend and the statue looked awesome holding the unicorn horn. Later saw it was going for like quadruple retail. I probably wouldn't have sold it and still wish I wasn't being cheap and got it.

I have always just bought what I like. I could care less how much it's worth (beyond what I pay for it) or if five or five million other people own the same thing.

Almost anything I've ever had of value was purely by accident. I had a TON of the early Funko Pop! stuff and later sold quite a few of them for a mint, but I never bought a single one with the intention of selling. You tell me you want to give me $1000 for my $9 Pop! there's not a lot of arm twisting needed. I'm so thankful I got out of that line.. it's just relentless release after release.
Thats a great price .. i sold the 3rd sail barge 3 years ago b4 i moved, it went for $1300 and some change no regrets, my son has mine and unicron and all of my other stuff in his possession, why the fuck do i want to move that shit down here , the barge/and monster have never been opened unicron is bad ass but hes in back in the box . My cloverfield monster the sail barge my MR boba fett blaster & unicron are my only big ticket items minus a few old guns from both of my grandfathers collections and my dads .and some other random shit . Lucky you though you got out of them the gf and i were somewhere back in 2016 and she saw a groot and had to have it and said i wouldnt be mad if you found more of these ,okay then grogu came out and then she found out yoda was a pop as well . I have maybe 80 pops possibly a few more , Almost All are blacklight/flocked/GITD or related to something i like , a few horror ones and a handful of chases as well i recently started streaming demon slayer and picked up a mcfarlane ?inosuke hashibira ? and ive picked up all the usagi yojimbos necas been making .. And then i saw BEERUS bandai and then i found the little 4? beerus Then they turn around and make gamma1 And gamma2 . I like a lot of things/genres and only go all in on very few lines ..

Are classified figures worth anything really anymore? Like at the start Cobra Island stuff flipped for decent amounts but I don't think there has been anything like that since. I suppose the haslab figures sell for decent amount since that is the only way to obtain those figures.
The retro figures bring the greatest ROI (minus HasLabs) so far with Crimson Guard, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Zartan, Gung-Ho, Snow Serpent and Beachhead returning almost $100 in profit combined over MSRP.
