Are classified figures worth anything really anymore? Like at the start Cobra Island stuff flipped for decent amounts but I don't think there has been anything like that since. I suppose the haslab figures sell for decent amount since that is the only way to obtain those figures.
Major Bludd used to go for around $70. Now, even without another run, he can be had for around $50. Classified won't be another ARAH where people are paying crazy prices years later. |

Serious question, does anyone here actually care about scarcity or future value of an item when they buy it?
I'm wondering if I am the norm, or an outlier. But I don't give two flying fucks if any of this stuff will be worth money later. Like, I didn't want OAMCC because he's a hard to acquire exclusive. I just wanted the figure because it looks cool. Do people who go to comic con care about exclusives? Is that why they even go to begin with? I guess a bigger question would be why do people still go to SDCC in general? I like a good convention, but not the ones that I have to shell out hundreds to fly across the country to attend. Not to mention fighting all the crowds and the exorbitant rates for everything all along the way. Genuinely curious if anyone here who doesn't live in California or a neighboring state and doesn't work for this site attended the show and why. For California locals, I get it, but if you live on the East Coast, there is just no incentive to go to SDCC. Anyways, back to my point, I collect this stuff because I like it and it makes me happy in the present day. I guess if it retained some value there would be some reassurance that I could offload all of this crap in the event of a financial emergency and recoup some of the cost spent, but I pretty much never think of this. Every time I buy a new figure, I consider that money gone, never to return. There's been a lot of talk over the past few days about exclusives and if we're entitled to them or not. Some say that exclusives SHOULD be hard to get. Or that you shouldn't expect to get one at retail if you didn't attend the show. I agree to a certain extent. I suppose it depends on the exclusive. I have managed to nab all of them so far, one way or another. However this Once A Man Coco is an example of a solid exclusive. This figure is representative of a main character who looked like this for maybe an hour of runtime, maybe less. He was subsequently turned back to human form with the DIC series. In my opinion this is the perfect deep cut exclusive. This is not a collection defining piece in my opinion. On the other hand, Mindbender and Serpentor are core characters that would rightfully piss off a lot of people if this was the only way to get it. Same with Chuckles to a degree, although I know a lot of people don't love that character as much as I do. I open EVERYTHING! I collect to enjoy, not to retire off of. If I get bored with something, I'd rather give it away for free, or sell it cheap on Ebay so that it's gone quickly...and give a great deal to another collector (I'm hoping, not just someone who's going to resell it at a higher price) I'm not in this hobby to become rich...but I'm sure others are. I hate crowds, so even if I lived walking distance to SDCC and was given a free pass, I'd pass on it. I'm thankful that the exclusives are available to other collectors who cannot go to SDCC, but I'm sure that those who are saying "...that exclusives SHOULD be hard to get. Or that you shouldn't expect to get one at retail if you didn't attend the show." are those who are scalping the item to make some quick cash. You had said "In my opinion this is the perfect deep cut exclusive. This is not a collection defining piece in my opinion." and I agree with the first part. The G.I. Joe Movie was great, and in my opinion, no other cartoon series or live action movie has outdone it. It had that great cheesy Sci-Fi element, and went balls to the wall crazy with what they did to Cobra Commander. I'll never forget that scene, and to me...the "Once a Man" figure will be my #1 figure (as long as my order goes though, lol) in my Classified collection and nothing will dethrone it. I'm guessing Hasbro had little faith in releasing this figure in normal retail/online stores, but as we are seeing...it keeps selling out so the demand is definitely there. Now Hasbro, you NEED to make G.I. Joe The Movie version of Roadblock since snake Cobra Commander needs someone to ride on. While you're at it, you also NEED to make a G.I. Joe The Movie version of Duke with the option to have a snake sticking out of his chest. |

Now I'll say I hate when something I really want is in limited quantities just because as a consumer you expect to be able to buy the products you want and it's annoying when they are locked behind "limited editions". It's honesty anti-collector in my mind. Luckily we haven't truly had that in this line. NO "only 2000 made" type stuff and I'm thankful for that. I have basically 3 criteria for my collecting habit. 1. Is it cool? 2. Can I afford it? 3. Do I have space for it?

Only a few things still go for more chuckles, haslab stuff ,single ci vipers, serpentor/.mindbender/Range vipers Quote:
Not really. Serpentor and VAMP probably bring in the most aftermarket right now outside of HasLab stuff. That won't last long when the inevitable retro and 2nd run comes out, or the market for people who pay that much is tapped.

Youre right the vamp goes for more than$200 regularly i saw a few ferrets get just under $100 , its Crazy do people still miss that many things . $200 for a vamp that just sounds crazy to me . I forget sometimes theres a new collector born/starting everyday …

Scarcity and future value accounts for 0% of my concern when I buy these figures. I do buy extras of figures but it is mainly because I am afraid of breaking things or losing parts so I want backups. Also, I truly do have a son (age 11) that collects these as well and he is really pushing me to get the Rattler. I still haven't backed it.
