OK! That makes me recall yet ANOTHER question I asked (We spent A LOT of time in the Hasbro booth. All told we stood around talking to Lenny, Tony and Matt Cohen for hours. All very very cool). I asked L if they used the same old old super light ABS plastic from the 80's for Retro Cobra Commander's head. He said, to my surprise, NO. They used a very hard PVC that's a relatively new process. Engineering HATES figuring out vac-metal + neck-ball void plastic shrinkage. L fought very very hard to get us that vac metal face plate. They had to revise CC's head from the one used for the Mickey Mouse version. So the base head is new.

As I remember things we all discussed I'll post as they jog. Tony Bacala, Jacer and myself asked a lot of questions. I wrote down very little. :(

I was recently reading the early joe comics and grand slam does jump into a truck and beat the shit out of Major Bludd in probably his only moment of note. Although gijoe declassified, while not cannon, features these characters too and shooter especially.

Being first on the shelves (and our toyboxes) meant the O13 got a lot more miles than the later figures did for a lot of us, even if some of the later figures might have been objectively more interesting.

This is excellently put. I would also add that as a result, the stories we created as kids with those first toys were OUR STORIES and it's likely we have a stronger connection to those figures as a result, regardless of how they were fleshed out in media after. Short-Fuze is important to me not because "hot-tempered soldier" is a really unique and memorable character type, but because he was my first Joe and had a lot of adventures and personality before I even grew familiar with the comics or, as Spidermaniac points out here, the cartoon.

This scene was extremely important to me as an impressionable young person. My Joes would spend a LOT of time throwing themselves through windows, moving or otherwise, to beat up goons between 1982 and 1983.
