The funny thing about the OG 13 is that, of the Joes, only Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Stalker, and Breaker really got any major play in the cartoons. Grunt, Flash, and Zap were in one, maybe two episodes that I can remember, and Short Fuse was also only in a couple. Rock & Roll, Steeler, and Clutch were featured in a few, but nowhere near as prominently as the top four. And Grand Slam I don't think EVER appeared in the cartoon. So aside from completists, how many people would even want those figures that saw little use outside of the toys.
Heck, when the cartoon first came out, wave 2 guys like Duke, Gung-Ho, Doc, Cover Girl, Tripwire, Wild Bill, Ace, Snow Job, and Torpedo were featured way more prominently than over half of the originals & Airborne, thus why we have most of them in Classified already. |

My attention was evenly divided between the cartoon, comic, and toys so yeah I'd like to see all those other characters!

Also keep in mind. .the cartoon was 100% to sell toys. The 1982 figures had come and gone before the toon hit... there was no reason to feature all of those characters prominently. It wasn't about popularity more so that you don't advertise things you don't have for sale any longer. Once some of the characters were established in the toon.. of course they keep using them.. but every new character or vehicle that showed up was what was for sale at the time for the most part. At least that's my take.. I suspect there's more nuance to that than my general statements.

I didn't get into GI Joe until summer/fall '83, but I still do want all of the 1982 guys in Classified. I'll be the first to admit they aren't as interesting to me as the 1983 and later figures though. But I also understand their place in ARAH and Joe history in general and appreciate them. Plus, Classified has managed to make them all unique enough from each other so they don't seem as similar as they did in 1982-1984.

The importance of the O13 depends a lot on age and media. The O13 came out in 82 and the comic came out in June of that year. Even though the 1983 wave came a year later, the O13 were still produced (now with swivel arm battlegrip!) so they were pretty ubiquitous in a lot of toyboxes. (Note: I didn't know this at the time, but looking at collector guides, it appears most Joes got a two year run which bled the boundaries between waves-- not to mention old stock lingering on shelves back in those days).
The cartoon was a five part miniseries in 83 and another five part miniseries in 84. It wasn't a daily show until 85, had a second half-sized season in 86 (interspersed with reruns of season 1 on most stations), and then the 87 movie capped the Sunbow era. Even in its prime, most people only saw 30 minutes of Joe content a day. In other words, we had a lot of time to play with the O13 before the new cartoons came in and started to supplant them. Media and toys were much slower paced back then, and I remember the VAMP, Flash, and other O13 still being part of my G.I. Joe play until I stopped collecting in 87. Being first on the shelves (and our toyboxes) meant the O13 got a lot more miles than the later figures did for a lot of us, even if some of the later figures might have been objectively more interesting. I did not learn the O13 were a thing until the trading cards came out in 1991. I came in around 86-88 or so. I watched the cartoon and did realize there were some guys with wacky colored uniforms that were pretty plain but never put two and two together. Once I saw that in the cards it all made sense. I remember I loved Flash. It wasn't until 1991 in issue 119 of GIJOE that I realize Snake Eyes and Scarlet were a thing. I had grown up thinking Duke was with Scarlet. Oddly I had a few Joe comics before that but none that showed their relationship so it slipped completely under me for years and I collected almost all the toys since I started.
I think the O13 absolutely should get made sooner than later. In both classified and retro forms. I am a completionist like that. p.s. I really believe that the 89 Joe Downtown was probably meant to be Short Fuse V2. And the headhunter stormtrooper is range viper v2 and the night vulture was supposed to be another snake eyes figure. |

For some reason I had in my calendar pre-orders for today at Noon, is that not the case?

Hopefully the Despoiler will have some docking points on it.
It could for example land on top of a Hiss Tank where the side guns go. But failing that idea for compatibility, It would be nice if "the Proof of concept" of higher priced vehicles could lead to things like a DEMON getting made outside of a Haslab (like as a Pulsecon exclusive say). Much like this Pixis one : https://www.hisstank.com/forum/attac...1&d=1722356451 |

I was just told I suck at self-promotion, so here it goes: My first G.I. Joe novel, which was recently renamed D.C. Colt: First Salvo and rereleased on Amazon, which sold very well and seemed to be popular among the Joe fans who read it, was only about the OG14. In it, characters like Short-Fuze who never really got a lot of attention in other media really got some characterization attention. If you did not read it, I suggest you pick it up. I would wager that anyone who does will want that group completed. https://www.amazon.com/D-C-Colt-Firs.../dp/B0D8GX22VQ |
