Really though, I wonder what the train-of-thought was for including patches as a tier? Is the cost for producing patches a tiny, tiny fraction of what it would cost to produce another figure? How do the economics of it work?

The three patches seem to add about $3.00 in value... so I'm assuming they are producing them for pennies.

I'm going to play devil's enabler here. There are a lot of people who won't back the HasLab but will want this later. Looking at this HISS and other HasLabs you will probably be able to break even keeping the figs and selling just the Rattler if you don't want it. And, if you do later decide you want it. . .you'd still have the choice. If you're even 50/50 (and the cost isn't the barrier), I'd say go for it.

If you are interested in this way I would do opposite if I were you. Buy and keep Rattler and sell off figures. That way cheap part of shipment (figures) is on your end and you have Hasbro ship you the Rattler!

Or, if someone else purchases, they can put your address with Pulse but you will still have to ship them the figures after receiving the Rattler

I suspect I will as well, but I have no intention of keeping the plane if I do. I think I may sit on the sidelines a while to see if they toss in another figure.

For such a great package.. those patches are such bad optics for something like this, I think. Did they not see the blowback for the Rancor rocks and cardboard... this isn't much better than that. Them being a part of the package isn't a big deal.. but being a tier is just a bit of a misstep I think.. although it'll fund and hit all tiers so what do I know.
