For me, it is the change of role. The 87 figure was never intended to fly. I think this was a common misconception due to the wing-cape. Raptor was a bird handler in the same vein as Crocmaster was to his reptiles. The bird suit was part of how he trained his genetically engineereed birds and the filecard even calls out that he isn't crazy -- it is just a means to an end. My ideal Raptor would have ditched the claws and flightpack and included several large, steel-taloned birds of prey and possibly a perch for them.

This version, and many customs, is someone who wears a bird-themed jet pack and attacks people with strap-on claws. It is more DC's Hawkman or Marvel's Falcon. Even using the wings as a shield is taken straight from those characters. It feels to me like thay are trying too hard to make Raptor seem "bad ass" when, in my preferred vision, he is not a front-line fighter -- that's what his birds are for. I would have much rather they focused on giving him some awesome pets than making the wing pack the star of the show.

I strongly suspect this version of Raptor is influenced by what we will eventually see in the Skybound comics as the jet-pack does have some design elements that look Decepticon-ish to me (as well as drawing inspiration from the CLAW). But, in a world where the CLAW, Trouble Bubble, and JUMP pack exist, I'm not sure big wings that let you fly are all that much of an advantage.

It's not a bad figure, in my opinion, just not emphasizing the version of the character I have in my head. I will probably pick it up and see if I can use thrid-party add-ons to make it read more like my head cannon.

I like fat road pig. Otherwise cobra would be half buff big dudes with nemesis Enforcer being bigger buff dude that can fly. Everyone's already wanting big buff mercer. We all don't like the same buck but don't like deviation as well. I guess they could make another big buff body but still half of cobras non troopers would be big.

Raptor was a contender for worst Cobra character lists, so this is really a glow up. Still would never want the character in my collection, but this is a huge step up from the goofy condorman nonsense. Raptor was an idiot in the comics as well.

Reinventing the crazy characters is fine, they have been doing it for a long time with many characters and changing of bios over the years even before classified became a thing.

I’m on fence about Raptor but am totally fine with them taking a chance with something different. Reality is if they went full-on adaptation, people would complain that they’re not making them Classified enough.

What bugs me more is the plussing of Road Pig. It’s a weird figure. I liked the original but this version is excessive. I don’t need more animals and extra weapons I have to stick in a box. But it’s also a deluxe figure releasing the same day as what…three other deluxes? I think it’s a bad strategy to roll out that many at once as it just makes people less likely to impulse buy. I’m already thinking just Action HALO and Raptor.

I could say this about each and every single character in some manner, as nothing is original in the line or hasn't been done by some comic book.

Changing a design whether you think it's lazy or not is simply that, a change. Raptor was lame and even a surprise he's getting a new figure at all.

It's interesting how varied fan tastes are. My favorite two figures from all the reveals were Road Pig and Raptor. Original or not.. I think Raptor turned out pretty cool.. and I freaking love how huge Road Pig is. I joked before I wanted him on a Hulk size buck and he practically is. Those are def must haves for me. Also a big fan of Starduster.. but really everything with exception to maybe that weird Crimson Guard was pretty good in my opinion.

Bummed there was no Airtight still. I would have even loved a vague reference or something. Maybe at PulseCon.....
