The JUMP platform was always one of the dumbest 'toys' to me. It's just a piece of plastic. Does nothing. And it doesn't make sense. You have a jetpack that can fly ANYWHERE. Why do you need to take off from the platform? What does the 'control panel' control?
I just never understood the JUMP. |

Speaking of OG GI Joe, as a kid, a good chunk of my hatred for the first two years was simple - they're army men. They're clearly a specialized military unit with a guy or gal each having their own unique place on the team.
...and they're facing some homegrown terrorists who control one lone town in the Midwest? Didn't help by '83 Joe was kitted out with even more specialists and jets, tanks, bases, and Cobra has...some crappy looking helicopter, what looks like an 80s car converted into a "tank", and a glider. Oh, and a mercenary to bolster their forces. GI Joe felt like absolute overkill against Cobra. Surely a bunch of grunts could root out these Cobra dudes? Thank God for '84 and the rise of more Cobra weapons! |

According to the blueprints, the JUMP console is a charging station for the jetpack and its attached laser blaster and also serves as a communications and radar station -- very important features in any aerial deployment system. There would likely be an operator coordinating with the JUMP pilot when they are deployed.
The jetpack itself has an operational capacity of two hours with a maximum speed of 150 MPH. The laser blaster has an effective range of 100 yards, so it's very much a close-range weapon system. I could easily see the JUMP pads being deployed in the vicinity of the FLAC, HAL, Whirlwind, and MMS. As for the launch pad, a stable platform is just easier to take off and land from and it also links the pack with its ground crew. I don't think the toy initially conceived the JUMP to be as easy to use as it ended up being portrayed in comics and cartoons. |

Breaker has seen an increase in his value too. Up to $75 US now. 6 months ago he was still available for close to cost.

I liked the OG13, while as I have said, i didnt have many i still enjoyed them, i was to young to get all upset they essentially looked the same, that was the point right, while they were elite they were still US military and had different military specialties which in 1982 made sense, plus Cobra was the nameless terrorist group made up of thousands of troops, you didnt need diversity to understand what Cobra was.

We had 'some' of the OG13 - but not many. Hawk was my first figure - and my brother had the VAMP. Then, I think we had Short Fuse and Flash.
Things started to pick up with 1983 and on. Storm Shadow, Destro, Drednoks, Baroness, etc really blew the lid off GIJoe. We also had hooded / gold trim CC. Was that 82 or 83? I can't remember. Got him by mailing in flagg points if I remember correctly... |
