Complaining about the problem comes across as crass at that point though. His suggestion that he would try to just gather cash in the timespan of a Haslab campaign because it appeared is absurd in both concept and principle, as if he's suggesting he knows ahead of time that he would make to make this kind of bad decision. If he can't figure out that buying toys in a state of zero cash reserves is a problem enough to complain about it publicly, then I figure I'm doing him a favor by spelling out the what and the why of the problem for him.

BBTS offers a Pile of Loot feature. You can pile up your purchases to ship out in larger shipments to save on shipping. You can typically store stuff there for 90 days (I think that's the limit) before they want/force you to ship it. If stuff hits your Pile but you don't want it after, you can return it for credit (or a refund within something like 7 days).
So theoretically, people could have had Haslab Skystrikers in their Pile of Loot and then returned them. BBTS could have held off on selling them again, until after a certain amount of time after customers received the Skystrikers which were shipped to cover customer service issues. And then BBTS decided to relist their refunded Skytrikers as "exclusive" sale. It's not a big deal...unless you want to make it a big deal. Also, they give warning when preorder (like Haslabs) payments are upcoming. There are always some people not wanting preorders afterall, and they cancel their orders. Typically, those items go back up for sale relatively quickly (it seems so anyway). I regretted only backing for one Haslab Sentinel and wanted a 2nd after the campaign. I bookmarked BBTS' page for it and kept checking once people reported getting impending charge emails for the Sentinel. After a day or so, the Sentinel became available again (I think I got it for about $80-100 more than the initial Pulse price). I've gotten other pre-soldout items using the same technique. Granted, these new Skystriker listings are long after they've shipped their initial round, but some of the same principle applies. |

A lot of people outside HissTank have a bigger issue with this. I think people were taken aback that a HasLab product popped up at a retailer. I suspect many people thought the Skystriker had gotten a second factory run or Hasbro had sold off quantities of it that, for some reason, they still had. There were so many questions (of varying degrees of politeness) that Emily of Hasbro issued an IG statement. I, frankly, am just very curious about what this means for the Hiss Tank HasLab and others. Can we expect to see BBTS sell dozens of them in the future at a relatively small markup? I really don't care about the Skystriker at all. I didn't back it and I didn't consider buying one from BBTS. I will say that some of the possible explanations for how this happened in this thread seem so unlikely to me that I've felt the need to tweak them. I'm going to try to avoid that, but it's very hard. People have some very interesting imaginations.

Errr I think some people are overlooking the fact that the Haslab Skystriker was not available from BBTS until yesterday. If it had been available from them back in February, we would have had this whole discussion then, yes?

Unpopular opinion time. You shouldn't be buying haslabs with intent to make a profit. You should buy the Haslab because you want to collect it.
You also shouldn't go into debt or put yourself in a financially unstable position to buy a toy. However, selling off some of your collection that you aren't into anymore to get something new is perfectly fine and a responsible action. |

Tax season is going to be a hard lesson for a lot of folks that receive 1099-Ks for fueling their hobby by flipping toys and going over that $600 limit. I don't think a lot of folks know about the change that probably should. The decision to hold off on the change last year probably gave a lot of folks a false sense of security.

Speaking of 1099-ks, how will that work if we're selling pieces from an old collection?
I have no records or even recollection of how much I paid for some of my stuff. I don't even remember buying some of it. We only have to report profit as far as I'm aware. They already know the total amount sold. Like I recently sold a vintage Joe for over $100. Don't remember where I got it or how much I paid. I found it in a box of Star Wars stuff I hadn't opened in a couple decades. I also found vintage carded Star Wars figures I don't remember buying or the cost. Taxes will be a nightmare this year. I'm hoping this tax season becomes such a shit show for the IRS they simply call off the small time 1099-ks next year. Bringing millions of clueless little guys into this who aren't business owners may be an issue.
