I put it off for ages, in fac, I was a Pulse premium member first, but after awhile, it just didn't make sense not to be any longer. Besides, despite the fact that movies can be added slowly, Prime Video does have some pretty watchable content.

I guess it's official - $35 is the minimum now .
If you still have the $25 threshold, enjoy it while it lasts.

Amazon Prime still has the 30 day free trial. You can use it once a year per account. If someone was on a budget and had 12 email addresses they'd never have to pay for Prime if money's an issue.
I'm surprised they haven't done away with this like most streaming services. Last edited by Trigger2K; 08-29-2023 at 08:46 AM.. |

CNN also had an article yesterday about the test up to $35 minimum. I think what happened yesterday was a glitch as they were updating whatever geogrphic areas were getting the increase to $35. Today, the free (non-Prime) shipping is back to normal.
Funny thing is that Amazon did raise its free shipping threshold once before to $35 and after about 6 months or so they dropped it back down to $25. I know alot of people find a good value proposition in Prime and that is great for them, but I do not. IMO (I know many will disagree) I find their streaming offerings to be very lackluster and I have not enjoyed any of their original programming. For me Prime is nothing more than a shipping benefit and given that Prime is no longer even a 2 day guarentee paying $140 for Amazon's "free" shipping, is not a value. I find Pulse Premium to be a greater value given the yearly cost for the benefit of free shipping, the sale discount of 35% when Hasbro has a sale event, and the early access. Amazon shipping has gotten so bad, when I ordered Copperhead, they slapped a mailing label directly on the action figure box and shipped it that way. |

Honestly the shipping is more of a side benefit for me; I always joke (?) that I pay $140 a year to Amazon for guaranteed access to classic Law and Order and Top Gear episodes.
The free music sub isn't nearly as good as it used to be since they switched it to the idiotic Spotify-inspired model, though. |

When I first saw that film, I looked away for the brief moment that it showed her hair blowing out of the open box. Until I saw it again, with all that emphasis on the unknown pregnancy, I thought John Doe had cut out her fetus and put it in the box as his "envy." One of those classic examples of the imagination taking an implication and making it much worse.
American History X is another film which has a really graphic scene that always makes me want to turn away just because your brain sees enough to know what happens next. I guess that is a little different from what you said, how your mind makes things much worse sometimes. But those are film examples of how the human mind is so strong and powerful and can allow us to still finish a visual in our heads, even though we never see the actual visual.

I love that, great story! That's classic Fincher too. I think in Fight Club in the scene where Jared Leto's character is getting mercilessly pummeled, Fincher has said that the film actually cuts before each blow to the face is seen (or at least most of them). But because the reactions and shots are so up-close and because of the the way it is edited, the mind is tricked into thinking it is seeing every bone-crushing punch to the face.

I'd also argue that's one of the reasons Kingdom of the Crystal Skull failed. Scenes like Indy in the fridge being shown, came off as ridiculously silly, whereas if they'd cut from Indy getting in the fridge, to the explosion, then to him kicking it open after the blast, our minds would've rationalized that better. There were soooo many scenes like that in that film. A shame, given Lucas relied on that very premise in Revenge of the Sith when he didn't show Anakin slaying the younglings. It was all done through implication.

I have had prime for almost a decade and never pay more than $99 a year for it (I am charged monthly with my Amazon rewards card).

Actually, those are all great examples of the same concept. Another is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The film has less gore than Halloween, but because of the build up, and visible implications of what's to come (a perfect example of how to build tension/horror within a scene), people swear remembering the gore from the infamous meat hook scene, despite the incident happening completely out of frame.

I agree with you about KotCS and RotS.
