There’s rumors going around that the new Transformers movie ends with the reveal of GI Joe which will set the table for the team up movie.

Wasn't it after Retaliation when rumors began that MASK would join the live Hasbro universe to be the go-between with Joe and TF? Still hope to see that happen with the original MASK team.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura just confirmed the ending at a press conference in Singapore.

****Spoilers****
End credits scene is the main human character, Anthony Ramos, getting invited to join GI Joe. I'm assuming he'll be a near character but he does have a power suit in this film like in the 86 Transformers movie so I don't expect him to be really military anyway.

By modern standards, there isn't really much out there as far as kids' properties go that is anywhere near as grounded as GI Joe. It was a bunch of colorful, larger-than-life personalities facing near-real-world stakes and that had gear which was only slightly above that of real-world tech. How is that supposed to compete with Fortnite, Marvel, Star Wars, Lego, etc? Joe is sort of in this weird middle area that's not grounded enough for serious military enthusiasts of the teen/adult ages, and not fantastical, wondrous, or silly enough for kids, and that's by design. It worked back then, because most entertainment (save for a few cartoons) were also grounded, but not now. Even the fantasy in GI Joe was mainly grounded in myth, which has its own roots in reality. The Classified line is very likely being kept afloat by people who "scale collect" and don't care about anything but scale and aesthetics. The lack of file cards, given that context, makes sense. If I was Hasbro, I'd take the exact same approach, because even for kids, Hasbro doesn't want to prevent you from buying just one figure. Hasbro isn't interested in brand loyalty. They want those impulse purchases more than anything else, because the widest net is cast that way. It also explains in two ways why Hasbro has been recycling RAH for Classified: One, they don't have to fish for or take risks on new ideas, and two, there is a built-in market. As much as I love this property, it's been pretty clear to me for awhile that modern audiences just don't want what the GI Joe story has to offer. I would rather see it die on the vine than turn into something that's GI Joe in name only. |

The Transformers, imo, are too over-powered for a GI Joe team-up to work. Megatron doesn't need Cobra in any way, shape, form. He doesn't need a second Starscream in Cobra Commander plotting against him, especially when the Decepticons can wipe them off the face of the Earth. Meanwhile, the Autobots have absolutely no reason to team up with the Joes for anything other than common courtesy.
