There was a LOT of anger around the pricepoint when the HasLab went up. Is this different/better/"more than"? Sure, it's reasonable to think that, but it was hard to convince a large portion of O-Ring collectors who had been spending under $80 for *decades* on sets that included the Skystriker to suddenly spend *three times* that much.
I don't believe O-Ring fandom is larger than Classified (quite the opposite now, in fact), but outside of the $34 Stinger, Hasbro has made collecting classic GI Joe a very painful (on the wallet) experience the last year. Although, heck, at this point I'll take irritating pricepoints over no planned releases at all. The HISS has the advantage of being launched halfway through the Classified line. It was a perfect storm. |

The Skystriker was also mismanaged, but funded anyway. The main problem was that nobody knew what was planned for O-ring when it launched. The Cobra hack was full of character and ended up being the thing that got it over the line, but with different timing and a little more sharing of information, it could have easily gone over its stretch goals several times.

Should have given us single carded o-ring figures for the same price that not really retro but modern sculpt line was.
But they didn't. Instead hasbro played themself, and it looks like they're trying to blame customers for not buying the same figures all over again. |

We assume things. We also read/hear bullshit and then pass it off as fact. We also make shit up ourselves. Hasbro never said this o-ring stuff was an ongoing line. What they did say is it was for the anniversary year, and then later said something vague about a "soft reboot" or something like that after we kept hounding them for more "news." Everyone here went from hoping it would continue past the anniversary to fully believing it would and freaking out that Hasbro hadn't said anything about it since the last product reveal. Why would they though when they showed all the product that was coming for what they told us was a special anniversary offering?
My guess is any future Joe o-ring product will fall under their "retro/nostalgia" umbrella, and will consist of more of the same: Transformer x-overs, maybe Haslab and maybe a limited selection of figure sets. If--IF--they do more, it will likely be a "retro" side line to Classified. Until they say otherwise, at best we can hope for a limited line with a few more offerings, but we shouldn't expect anything or feel "cheated" if nothing comes or if it isn't a full line of product. Hasbro never said there would be more o-ring product. And before we go off speculating and pontificating about "money being left on the table" and all that, let's just remember we have no idea of the costs and logistics involved with these toys.

I am certain the Cobra surprise was 100% planned part of the campaign, and is better than their "Early Bird" structure. But otherwise, yes, I agree, there were parts that could have done better to generate greater sales.

I think that's key here, o-ring is expensive to produce now with the method of construction, the quantities you would have to sell to offset the cost likely isn't there right now when 1/12 scale is what the majority of toy collectors want
