I'd be curious if they did a PP Croc Master, would he come with his croc or as a single figure? And if he comes with his croc, will she be painted in PP colours? lol

In general, I'm hesitant to think that we're really going to get all of the repaints/variants that some people want here. With TF Recondo being quickly put on clearance, is there really demand for an OG version to justify creating one? TF Duke/RAM is sitting deep at my local Target and will probably head to clearance too. Would a Dreadnok cycle really do any better, outside of the core fanbase? I don't know if it's distribution problems, over-production, or something else but there seems to be a disconnect somewhere between what's being retailed and what will actually sell through. Pushing variants is cheap to do from production POV compared to new sculpts, but filling shelves with variants of product that didn't sell in the first place is a suspect strategy. |

Duke would have sold like hot cakes, if he had come with the Tiger Paw, instead of a repainted RAM. I know Hasbro likes to reuse moulds, but I have to think that they would have made a greater profit by developing the Paw (which could have been reused later as the Ferret), instead of just repainting the RAM.

They could always do an Albino croc if they wanted to do a full-size in a different color palette? I wouldn't buy one, but maybe someone else would.

Pushing variants is cheap to do from production POV compared to new sculpts, but filling shelves with variants of product that didn't sell in the first place is a suspect strategy. Recondo, on the other hand, is probably pretty low on most collector's tier lists, he doesn't have a particularly interesting gimmick and wasn't all that prominent in the cartoon or comic, plus the TF version came with a vehicle, which likely limits how many people have nostalgia for it, so the people that want him are probably fine waiting for the original version. The Duke mold has already been released twice prior to TF, and at this point anyone who wants another variant of him is probably waiting for his "classic" look. The cycle repaint is cool, but not based on anything from the ARAH line, so no one has any nostalgia for it. PP Officer is a weird combination of the Trooper/Infantry and Officer molds, both of which most people have probably already grabbed at least one of, AND it's hideous. The only other newer figures that I see regularly on the shelves are Croc Master (excellent figures, but not a particularly vital character, and somewhat expensive if all you want is a cool croc figure) and the latest Snake Eyes (again, expensive, and a figure that's had, what, 3 or 4 releases now? 2nd for Timber). Along with the obvious bajillion Lady Jaye's and lingering Snake Eyes movie figures. I genuinely think if they threw some TF or PP figures in there that were a little more interesting than "guys with a backpack and a gun", they would be doing better. TF Lifeline or Tripwire, PP Televiper, etc. Last edited by Spider5800; 03-28-2023 at 10:35 AM.. |

I never had Recondo as a kid, but I loved his POC figure. What sold him for me and rocketed him to the top of my favorites list, was Action Figure Therapy several years back. Without that, I'd probably be in the same boat as you.

A part of me wonders if the line is bringing in new collectors? This is most people's first crack at Duke and a real Snake-Eyes in stores, and yet they sit. Many people's first crack at a real Baroness and she sits in Walmart.
Is it the prices in the case of Duke and Snake-Eyes? They're the two characters you'd think sell through, and yet TF Bazooka is the only one really moving in terms of exclusive and deluxe figures. Vipers and BATs were plentiful after a while until target clearanced them and naturally they vanished (hilariously, the Star Wars army builders have NOT vanished remotely despite clearance. That's a new one!). |

It's just as reasonable to think "GET THIS STUFF SOLD!" is a corporate dictum as much as it is a product (or line) not being all that popular. We are viewing it on a micro-level where at the macro-level it's happening for other lines and products. When we see every Ollie's is 45 Recondos deep for $10 each, then, perhaps, it's time to be concerned about the line's popularity.

Recondo is odd. I get the feeling it's Target trying to just clear out stuff fast because they have more exclusives coming soon. Like how the new Star Wars and MMPR exclusives come out and hit clearance 3-4 months later at Target. Or anything, really. Just saw Shazam Fury of the Gods DC Multiverse figure all marked down on clearance at Target. Movie isn't even cold in the ground yet and it's being clearanced. I suspect when the Quantumnmania figures come out they will immediately hit clearance - Target isn't wasting space on figures from a movie that would by then have flopped 5 months ago when we will have 3-5 new waves hitting then in August. |

Interesting points - it's also worth noting the time of year these were released in (just after Christmas, big dig in retail sales/toy sales) and the economic circumstances large retailers were/are in (parking lots filled with overstock in locked trailer boxes that they are under sincere pressure to sell through). Potentially even the economic circumstances consumers are in (bracing for a recession, turning down their discretionary spending to save just in case).

I can already see Falcon's and Marauder Barbecue's clogging the pegs everywhere this same time next year. |

Just for kicks, the last time I was in Target and Walmart, I made an effort to pay attention to the 'other' action figure lines (and not just Joe). We've become accustomed to our stuff hitting pegs and selling thru instantly. Well, it most definitely doesn't work that way with other lines.
Fortnite? Full Pegs. Wrestling? Full Pegs. Star Wars? Full Pegs. Marvel? Various lines of full pegs. DC? Full Pegs. I don't think we should worry that stuff hangs around for a while - or even if it hits clearance. That's just the way these things work. All lines seem to be selling at a trickle. If anything - GIJoe is one of the best performing lines on the pegs right now (by my observations at least) |
