I guess I always saw the Dreadnoks as being kind of like the Meth Nazi Bikers from Breaking Bad except without the meth or white supremacy.

Minus, of course, Zartan and his siblings, who are clearly supernatural and highly educated to pull off the character work they do.

It's weird how little background they have and how what little there is, isn't really canon.

But I guess I see Zartan drifting around a bit after leaving Australia and after he gets his powers and he attracts these hard-living biker guys like a cult. And they pull various basic criminal acts, very street level. They probably do stuff like the bikers in Breaking Bad, posing as exterminators and making spare keys to houses later. They're probably also a lot like the Irish travelers seen in Eddie Izzard's The Riches. Winnebagos full of fake driver's licenses. Credit card skimming machines.

They're engaged in crime at a level that Cobra isn't. Cobra has lawyers and shell companies. Heck, they have cities. They have sympathizers in law enforcement and the military and elected office. Cobra is somewhere between Disney, an organized religion, a multi-level marketing company, and a nation-state.

Whereas the way I see it, the Dreadnoks don't have cell phones except to run scams and live in campers off generators and scrape by on cash from bar bets and stolen credit cards inbetween paying gigs from Cobra.

That's the appeal as I see it: Cobra has cash that the Dreadnoks need. And, to Cobra, the Dreadnoks are people you keep at arms length for when you need tires slashed or businesses burnt down. Except for Zartan and Zarana, who are capable of operating in high society easier.
