Classified isn?t going anywhere. We wouldn?t be where we are now if there was any risk to that. |

We've got tons of names, tons of renders, but no proof the line is going to sustain itself for years
In several months when we have unreleased product in our hands I'll believe in the long term life of the line more |

Social media 101 is to sit out while ire is high. The NRA approach to a mass shooting, if I may be grotesque about it: take the weekend off, then return in three days like nothing happened. The "Jesus," if you will. Posting about the fanstream is an easy misstep, they should know better than that. C'mon. Quote:

This thread is absolutely wild right now. Sheesh, talk about pessimistic. Have most of you never worked for a big company before? Layoffs are unfortunately fairly common for large publicly traded companies. Take a look at the news right now, Hasbro is not the only company that is reducing it's workforce as we likely head into a recession.
Many of us have jobs or live in states that allow employers to terminate us without cause, so I don't know that my situation is any different from any other job where someone could be fired or otherwise let go. So, sure, layoffs happen, but I challenge y'all to tell me that you're not in a similar situation yourselves. I don't mean that in an antagonistic "NO U!" sense, but there are three ways of living with the reality of layoffs or other terminations: (1) live with that reality and work hard anyway (2) deny that reality and convince yourself you're never at risk (3) join a labor union and protect yourself for real Most of us live in (1) or (2), though more of us should striver for (3). The Joe line is fine. Cory will be fine. Hasbro still stinks for cutting labor costs to appease shareholders instead of finding more and better ways to satisfy consumers, or for accepting responsibility for 2022 being such a terrible sales year that they had to layoff staff. I recall being a loud voice about price hikes and thinking too spendthrift w/r/t Hasbro's willingness to expedite getting stock to the US for most of last year. Think of how "hey all this GI Joe stuff is out right at Christmastime, hope you have $600-800 all at once to pay for your preorders!" almost CERTAINLY led to cancellations by consumers who can't keep that much a balance on their credit cards. Hasbro failing to accept responsibility for its distribution and pricing/packaging shortcomings as root causes for a soft 2022 is really crummy, IMO, particularly when a lead sculpt manager takes the fall for dumbass corporate decisions that impacted sales. And, y'all, I'll sound like a broken record, can we not make dick jokes about the CEO's name? We're (largely) grown adults. C'mon. Hasbro ain't reading this forum, but the way we talk about specific named people in the company sure won't ever encourage them to come back and participate if they decide to do so.

Since it's inception in 1982, how many years have we NOT had GI joe product featuring the RAH characters on shelves? 9, and that's discounting the years like 97 and 98 in which Joe was available, but not at mass retail.
The original run lasted 12 years, went on a six year hiatus and came back for 2 more, which in turn evolved into the new sculpt era that basically ran another three years. after another 1 year break (DTC), GI joe was back at retail in full force with the 25th/ME run, which in essence ran another eight years. Classified is in, what, it's third year now? Historically speaking, the line is more likely to be given a new title or evolve into another form than it is to be cancelled, and considering that this is the first time I've personally seen evidence of the franchise doing well since it first went away in '94, I don't think either are likely. The idea that "Joe lines only last three-ish years" is patently false, unless you're splitting hairs and saying that JvC isn't the same line as VvV, or that POC isn't in essence the same as 50th. The latest ME line is hardly the rule, and it was apparent from the beginning that line wasn't going to last. Retro o-ring is also a bad comparison, as it's only officially died in the minds of the 'tank's many pessimists. You know what I have seen over the years? The people working on the brand changing, leaving, and/or being canned. Valaverse remembers.

Because outside of factory labor, this line is the work of like eight people and a rotating stable of freelance packaging artists. Half of those eight people aren't Hasbro employees to begin with. So you have like four Hasbro employees essentially producing the entire line. And one of them is gone.
Lenny does concepts, budgeting, planning. Tony does the faceprints and decos (with a freelance assistant). Cory does the sculpt fine tuning and oversees about three freelance sculptors who aren't Hasbro employees. Emily works on around three brands. And I think most of these people aren't even exclusive to Classified. The freelancers do multiple other toylines for multiple companies including some other Hasbro lines. I think the Joe team was also in charge of D&D, Power Rangers, and Ghostbusters action figures, with oversight by John Warden on Ghostbusters and Power Rangers? Granted, I can guess that two of those three probably won't get any figures after May or so. Though I'd hope Plasma Series returns for a couple of waves when the new Ghostbusters movie hits in December. And Power Rangers has a lot of stuff that would be left unfinished if they dropped it and a new movie and TV show more directly overseen by Hasbro coming up. |
