I don't understand why Hasbro can't make packaging as good as the stuff made 40 years ago |

I don't see it as 'they lied'. I just see it as, 'retailers didn't want to carry 3 3/4" Joes.' Or, more importantly - if they DID carry them, it was going to come out of the space allocated for Classified Series. Considering Classified is going for about $10 more per figure - for roughly the same footprint of peg/shelf space - it's a no brainer for retailers. You have to remember - retailers steer the ship... not Hasbro.
Seeing how the 3 3/4" Retro stuff at Walmart didn't sell very well... I can also see why Hasbro would stipulate that any further development of that scale would have to come from the 'overall' GIJoe budget - meaning that Classified would get less of the budget. It totally makes sense that O-Ring 3 3/4" is done. It's past it's time, honestly. |

I was really hoping for more of those transformers O-Ring mashups. Really love those.

There were listings for a Thunder Machine Soundwave with Zartan and some kinda Triple T Autobot bot with Sarge. They still might be on the table

Black Series and Legends are shorter than Classified. Beyond Black Series having zero sense in character sizes. Heads will many times fit between lines. Harrison Ford heads are kinda larger in Black Series for some reason so it may actually work. His hair is too poofy for the beret, though.

I don't either. I don't believe they predicted the loss of money or the layoffs and I'm sure there's more going on internally than fans will ever know about the company. |

This makes the assumption that this was not the last-minute strategic plan after all - another sticker set and three figures. The idea that this was a hail mary lives in complete ignorance of how long it takes to spec and scope the assets used in the page. There's no possible way it wasn't planned in advance (perhaps as a contingency is the closest I'll come to acknowledging it). Compare that with the efforts used to save Ghost Rider, Rancor, and others that failed. Stands to reason that, having seen other HasLabs that failed, we'd also have seen similarly cool "saving throws" to boost numbers. They didn't have them at all (or had them terribly done in the case of Rancor and Ghost Rider). It is incredibly presumptive to think the strategy all along wasn't to throw in those value-adds to Skystriker.
The "let's throw in 3 whole carded figures to save this failing crowdfund" also lives in complete contradiction to the notion many of y'all have accepted that O-Rings are cost prohibitive to make. If they were truly desperate to succeed with a struggling $220 crowdfund, a $65+ value-add as an act of desperation just reeks of impossible to believe. And a more cynical person (CERTAINLY not me :-P) might suggest that these figures (and Classified, really) don't cost nearly as much to develop and produce as they're charging us for them. I dunno man, the whole thing looked like a desperation move. And it's possible it was never tried again because none of the other Haslabs that failed actually got as close as this one did when they tried it. Or the SW and Marvel guys just made different decisions than the Joe team. Last edited by Spider5800; Today at 07:25 PM.. |

I've seen so many of the ReAction GI Joe figures clogging pegs at Toys R Us... like, so so many. And at a ridiculously high price-point. So, clearly there are retailers out there willing to stock the brand at a smaller scale figure.
Imagine if Hasbro went all-in with O-Ring the same way that the ReAction line did? And sold it as purely a collector figure the way that ReAction is marketed? Could have been amazing. |
