Although I didn't even know about GI Joe in 83. Got those later in life. The 90s and 2000s just killed it. I don't know what they were thinking with some of those horrible lanky or hulked out sculpts. |

That's why I said post-RAH for Joes, nothing compares to those pics from the 80's of TRU filled with Mobile Command Centers

I don't know why this pic is so unsettling for me but I haven't seen it posted here previously with the collection of TRU images

I was in Service Merchandise or maybe Woolworth and got a Jawa. I think I still have it. I remember looking at Princess Leia and wanted it but my mother told me I shouldn't be playing with dolls or something so went with Jawa. |

I'm going to say, first off welcome, even though you've been here some time. I've been collecting from 1988-1995, 2003-current so I feel like I've seen lots of ups & downs with GIJoe.
Right now it's good to be collecting because the GIJoe is no longer the obscure toyline from decades past. It's exploding in the size of it's fanbase. We're getting fantastic products in the Classified line with some other cool merchandise like Funko, Super7, Prexis, Forever Clever, Mini-mates etc. There's some cool people working for Hasbro right now who respect what the community is looking for. I don't count them in my complaints nor do I count the products were getting. However, it's not the best time to be collecting, in fact even with the fantastic products collecting Joe is kind of dismal right now: There's no toys on the shelves, even if you find the recent waves it's nothing in comparison the the days of Sigma 6 or Valor Vs. Venom where there were pegs & shelves flowing with Joe product. Don't forget the ROC line which was filled with economic friendly vehicles or playsets with easy to find exclusives for retailers There's no films or cartoons no videogames to bring GIJoe into the mainstream, remember how much effort want into Transformers? There's no collector's club or conventions which brought together fans of every Joe scale, getting to spend days with Hasbro designers, even play casino games with them. The GIJoe parachutes drop brought out hundreds of onlookers which was some of the best press GIJoe ever got in the last two decades We've just come off of two horrible pre-order fiascos where the people who spent money on the Premium scam didn't even get their toys, mixed in with the process being told to us completely wrong i.e. Dr. Mindbender There's the botching of the Retro ME line, securing everyone's money from the Skystriker which was the big return of classic toys then ignoring o-ring, no hint of ME returning, mixing core characters in with Transformer's crossovers, sub-par releases of over-priced two-packs 2003 to 2005 were the best years of GIJoe post-RAH when store like KB or Toys R Us were flowing with racks of product I think we can all agree the distribution sucks. However it seems to suck in general for any brick and mortar store. No matter where I go the selection of any toy line is pretty weak. I do wish dedicated toy stores still exist but I understand why they don't. |
