If di Bonaventura is involved, I'm sure it'll be trash. He's like Kathleen Kennedy with Star Wars... both know next to nothing about the franchises they are in control of and just want to get their fingerprints all over them.

With GI Joe, the cast is the feature, and you not only have to get it right, you have to get them on board for several features to make a franchise of it. Imagine the challenge and stress of replacing the actor who plays James Bond - the public scrutiny, the process, the criticisms that they're not XYZ enough, or they're too ABC to be Bond. Now multiply that problem across the entire Joe (and Cobra) teams, and that's before folding in what a nightmare scheduling would look like for the cast. It would be akin to planning and making "The Expendables" movie once every three years. But, hey, that's the studio's problem to solve for, and there are far bigger problems with the Joe franchise before all that - namely, interesting scripts and invested directors and producers who aren't sleeping at the wheel until the final paycheck is issued.

I may be in the minority with this opinion, but I really don't think GI Joe works as a feature film franchise. The roster of interesting characters is deep and daunting, and I think better lends itself more to serialized, episodic storytelling. I'd be all-in on a well-done, PG-13 animated series that got to spotlight some under-used characters.
Probably best at this point to leave it alone. |

We're still blaming COVID for shortcomings at the theaters? Snake Eyes looked terrible and apparently the people who went to see it confirmed it was.
Sorry, as much as I like what Hasbro's doing with the Classified Series G.I. Joe as a franchise is not in good shape. |

So does this mean we're not getting a M.A.S.K. movie?

I still think they dropped the ball by not at least giving Duhamel and his crew GI Joe names in the original Transformers movie. A GI Joe spinoff from that could have been cool in my opinion but I'm not the head of a studio for a reason lol.

We're not getting M.A.S.K. because it's a vehicle based line and the industry standard is 1:12 scale.

I've been reading Garth Ennis' Fury series. In it, S.H.I.E.L.D. falls under the jurisdiction of the U.N. |

GI Joe is an ensemble story, on both the good and bad guys sides. Movies will *always* fail to properly capture GI Joe because it's inherently a serial story needing an ongoing cartoon, comic book, or dare I say it: TV series.
***EDIT*** Oh, I see that's been covered. Last edited by Ozymandias13; 08-22-2022 at 12:00 PM.. |
