Honest question to those folks who buy them, but what is the draw of the Reaction figures? Their arms and legs don't bend at the elbows and knees so they are basically like vintage Star Wars figures and a step back from the original 80's G.I. Joe figures. And they are not cheap. I see them in Target and I just don't get it.

I think I'm going to get one each of the Female Cobra Troopers.
I don't collect Reaction (I kind of dislike them actually) but I feel the need to support Super7 making these particular characters.

Stand Duke, Scarlett or Lady Jaye next to their vintage counterparts if you want to see what I mean. I could only dream about having figures that look like they stepped right out of the cartoon back in the day. As for the articulation that's where they fall short obviously but when they're standing on a shelf you don't even notice the lack of leg or waist articulation because it's all the same when standing. So really its only the lack of elbow articulation and swivel arm battle grip that you notice because that comes into play when they hold their weapons. But the colors, sculpting, and paint more than make up for that IMO. I'm fully convinced that if these had somehow come out in the 80's instead of the O-rings that they'd still be just as legendary today as the originals because most other figures of the time--Star Wars, MOTU, D&D, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Dune, Thunder Cats, Fisher Price, Playmobile, Lego, Transformers--you name it, all had very limited articulation compared to O-Rings and those are all beloved toy lines to this day. I buy these for the sculpts and paint which are anything but a "step back" from the original Joes. In fact I'd say that every single one of these other than v2 SE is a significant improvement over their original counterparts, especially the faces, which are night and day upgrades.

I actually still don't thing Joe would have been what it was without O-Rings.
But cool for those who like these. But if I just want figures to stand there with a cool sculpt I'll buy the recent 5POA Star Wars. |

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that even back then as a kid I found the majority of the face sculpts to be greatly lacking. Especially figures like Duke and Scarlett, woof. We all wanted the figures to match the card art and now fast forward to today where these new 3.75 inch figures actually look *better* than the art on the packaging that they're shipped in. That's mind blowing to me. Billion dollar Hasbro can't even compete with these in this scale. The head sculpts on the new "Retro Collection" SW figures can't hold a candle to these. And if I was getting a Haslab Skystriker I'd absolutely be putting Super7's Scarlett inside it instead of ugly vintage inspired Scarlett head on a man's flightsuit body. I'm so glad that Super7 didn't get the Joe license until now when they're at the top of their game. Even comparing these to the He-Man and She-Ra Reaction figures they did just a few years ago they're pretty much terrible compared to the Joes. |

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Hasbro is trying to mimic the vintage aesthetic with their SW Retro sculpts. I saw an interview with Jim Swearingen (the designer behind early vintage Star Wars) and he said their sculptors at the time were easily good enough to make the likenesses resemble the actors, but they purposely chose to make them more generic looking. |

They should keep with the more obscure characters and alternative costumes. Troop builders are cool, but not at that price. I would buy them, but they have just priced me out.
