I open Classified, so the packaging doesn't matter, to me. However, I was planning on not collecting the o-ring, if they were plastic-free, since I don't open those. Now that it seems they will still have the bubble, looks like I might be back in with o-ring.

I don?t hold an environmental degree, shit, Im a graphic designer so Im pretty much the furthest thing from an expert. However I do know that plastic takes like 400-500 years to decompose. That sure is a long time and it sure does add up. Others may chalk this new policy up to virtue signaling and all the other political hyperbole that comes with that. As someone who has young kids, I generally feel that using less plastic is a good thing, and Im not going to criticize them for making an effort to have less of a negative impact on the environment. Again, I know there are a subset of MOC collectors out there, but Hasbro generally makes products with the intention that you open them. As long as the figures remain top notch, I can get over the sub par packaging.

I don't really mind either way, probably all but two of my Classified figures I've bought online. So, seeing the paint apps before buying doesn't really apply for me. I voted for the window. I just like that look better in general. With them going plastic free and putting the emphases on showcasing the artwork. Then I want the old school mini catalog on the back of the box. Or an insert catalog.

Classified going plastic free does not bother me as much because outside of facial hair I've yet to see bad paint on any classified figures. But Marvel and Star Wars figures are full of paint mishaps.

Even though I'm a true-blue opener, the need to review quality before opening is pretty important. If Hasbro is willing to take hassle-free opened returns on quality issue grounds, then I'm fine with windowless.

The new plastic-free packaging is stupid and the majority of collectors feel that way. You want to be able to see the figure before you buy it to make sure there are no QC issues.

The only plastic free package I like is the upcoming new Snake Eyes and Timber. All the other look like it?s intended for Dollar tree or something. Also it’s not plastic free. What are the figures made of?

Your own sentence here contradicts your last point. Plastic free packaging. As in the packaging is plastic free. Not the product. Most people throw away the packaging. They dont throw away the product.

For the people that never open their figures, plastic free is ideal because you just have to assume the figure is perfect. You don't have to obsess about any little imperfection that you can see through a bubble.
I buy everything from Pulse, Amazon or bbts, so I don't have to worry about repacks. And I open everything and toss the packaging. So my only worry will be wonky eyes or something, but I haven't even had that problem yet. My only gripe is that using different artists for the box art makes the line less recognizable in store aisles. I wish they'd go back to black boxes with explosions. Then the box front would be suitable for framing. |
