I had few gijoe vehicles when I was young. I had the condor and the errr idk the motorized thing with the blue canopy with the red gatling on top lol. I want to say battle wagon cause I saw it at a toy shop recently lol.
I like the design of snowcat better than the havoc. I'm also a sucker for Arctic. Though a snow cat in the same colors as havoc I think I would still go snowcat. I'm sure either would be cool and I'd probably buy either. |

The more thought I put into what a Joe HasLab might be, the more unsure I get. There are so many ways to justify so many different things.
A tank is an iconic piece of military equipment and has the potential to appeal to a broader customer base. So the Mauler/MOBAT concept makes sense. The Snow Cat or the HAVOC are striking, unique vehicles that scream "look at this thing that is notably GI Joe!". That appeals to the fanbase and acknowledges the strength of the brand. While perhaps not as compelling as just tank to the casuals, Hasbro showing faith in their own designs could be a factor in and of itself. Plus, either of these is more complementary to the futuristic design of the HISS then just a tank. Then there's the Dragonfly, which has the potential to be the best toy possible thanks to the winch, rotating blades, and potential for upgrades/add-ons. It's a helicopter, which is intrinsically cool and has the option of being displayed on a shelf or hung up somehow. At this point I don't even know if I have a preference, I'm just excited. TL;DR - I'll buy whatever they make. |

Yes, same, however, taking size and footprint into account, can't help but wonder if people getting the HISS Tank in hand will be reluctant to fund future HasLabs. Not b/c they don't want it, but once you have 2+ *very large items* in your house, how much more can you reasonably have?
Perhaps I'm underestimating the industriousness of the Joe collector community, but think of 2 Tanks, then add 2 more whatever of a similar size. Do you have space for that?

Perhaps I'm underestimating the industriousness of the Joe collector community, but think of 2 Tanks, then add 2 more whatever of a similar size. Do you have space for that? I'm personally in an ideal situation for toy collecting because I have essentially an entire floor of the house for display and storage. I can almost always shift things around and make room (and I am almost always shifting things around and making room). BUT I collect a lot more than just GI Joe, so I'll consider more factors than just "can I afford it/find space for it". I do a lot of deciding between how much I want items. Other collectors might be all-in on Joe and only Joe. Others might have limited space. Others might have already made a decision to be figure only. I don't think we'll know what the limit is until something fails the way the Nitro stage did. And even then we won't really have a clear picture of why. WCW is my sweet spot for wrestling. I could have made the space (by storing the AEW stage and using that space for my WCW collection). I was THE customer for this thing. But I didn't back it because the chance of paying $400 for just the stage and a single figure (or later two figures) was too high. And the figures they offered were not compelling. Having said that, if Mattel had simply offered the entire bundle up front and said they needed 11,000 backers to fund it I would have signed up day one. Because even though I didn't necessarily care about the figures, in my opinion the value would have been there. Other people had different reasons for not backing. I realize that story is just barely tangential to the Joe conversation, but I bring it up to demonstrate just how many factors can go into individual decisions about these things and how difficult it must be for companies to predict. I'm sure Steve and company at Mattel thought they had a sure thing or they wouldn't have offered it. But that turned out to not be the case. Sorry is that was too much non-Joe talk. I'm feeling unusually wordy today. |

I feel you on all that. My toy room is basically our guest house (which is a small miracle to have in the city). In our last house, I'd be in deep trouble already.
The WCW set...aw, man, the pain on that. I would subscribe to your newsletter. I love pro wrestling but collect very few figures of a very select group of people. That entrance was what things like crowdfunds were meant for: small audience, large scale fever dreams. The pricepoint and figure selection were both dismal, however. The one thing they did wisely was, when the Early Bird failed (knowing what we do that failed Early Birds are near guarantees of crowdfunds failing) was to quickly replace the top tier unlock with the early bird unlock and shift all the tiers down a peg. It didn't help the crowdfund succeed, but it was a noble effort. I suspect that the Ghost Rider haslab may have funded if Hasbro tried that.

Yeah the WCW was on an odd combination of both too big and overpriced. It was neat but was mostly a flat stage with some accessories added on top. It'd didn't scream $400. It was also an instant collection display backdrop that was too big for a shelf or alot of other display options.
One thing hasbro has been smart about with Haslabs (outside of the Sail Barge and Unicron) is that they all can roughly fit on a standard shelf. Sure you're gonna have to play around with height clearance but it's not like the WCW Entrance, Ultimate Wrestling Ring, or Eternia where you basically need a table to display them in full.

Yeah I wasn't gonna pay the asking price for Origins quality anyway, but the Eternia playsets only real allure is that it was impossible to get.
On it's own, it's a weird hodge podge of ideas and the centerpiece has nothing to do with anything else the brand and has no real lore significance.

Eternia doesn't even work as a collection/display centerpiece because well Castle Grayskull does that better than anything else both lore and appearance wise.
