Very true, but I also think we have been conditioned by lower production. If something ever goes on clearance, or is available for the whole year, it must not be selling. If something goes on clearance or is available all year, doesn't that mean there were enough of something produced that everyone that wanted one had the opportunity to buy one? There's a ditch on both sides of the road. If its underproduced, people go to the secondary market and Hasbro leaves money on the table. If its overproduced, it goes on clearance and profit margin is reduced. It seems to me it will be one or the other.
Regarding the HasLab project. I was very intrigued when I first saw it. I had passed on the Sky Striker, but I didn't really have room to rebuild a 3.75 collection (still kicking myself about the Razorcrest- but that's a whole different topic). Took the 3rd unlock announce to get my onboard. I guess, one I'm a sucker for female figures, but also having three total for a tank crew, worked out for me as a stand-alone set piece pretty much. I traditionally didn't get into a lot of Joe vehicles as a kid because they were so large, and hard to store. I think I had the lunar lander/spacepod thing... mostly because the canopy was cool lol. I've always been a fan of the Cobra Troopers, but have felt a little overwhelmed with rate the Classified Collection has been cracking stuff out, especially with e-tailer exclusives all over the place. ------------------------------------------------------------- A decent amount of folks seem to have the opinion of 'please make it cheaper and knock-off some of the features'. I get that from a budgeting standpoint... but I really haven't been impressed with the 6" vehicles we *have* gotten from Hasbro in general so far. Baroness's bike was pretty meh. I haven't seen the Joe bike yet. I will say the lights (and sounds?) were a little over-the-top... but part of me is kind of enjoying the idea. Light in the back of the cargo/troop area will be great for photos/display. -------------------------------------------------- I was surprised that these subsites I guess are separte? I usually lurk over in the ToyBox (?) with Diaclone discussion. But wit the Haslab decided to wander over here and join in. |

Another side of that road is also all the folks who go, "fuck these prices I'll wait until clearance" and then it just... disappears having never gone on clearance, and maybe didn't really get fulfilled past an initial shipment push (at least in Big Box Stores). I can't tell you how many times Classified figures have been a 'blink and you miss them' on pegs. Especially the original Cobra Island (stupid Target Exlcusives) run.

Even if people wait till it goes on clearance, as long as its sold at or above cost it still seems like a net positive. The problem to me seems to be on the other side. Pre-orders that sell out in minutes to hours, the scalper market, blink and you miss it store availability all point to underproduction instead of overproduction. |

I would think they might be ramping up production or already preparing to now since it has already nearly doubled the minimum number needed in only a week's time. But maybe there's some kind of legalities that they have to abide by that won't allow them to until the campaign officially ends. Hasbro legal may also want them to wait just in case...not that it could ever lose 8K backers suddenly at this point.

6 inch was never supposed to be a vehicle line though. The reason Star Wars and Gi joe went with 3 3/4 was for the vehicles and world building. Six inch was for the detail that can be added to the figure and a higher profit margin.

Alternatively this confidence would be cool if it lead to another Gi Joe (Cobra) has Haslab banged out sooner. Since it wouldn't necessarily be 'self-competing" since the HISS is gtg. |

I don't think any line has gotten more than one Haslab in a calendar year. Next summer would probably be the soonest we might see another Classified Haslab.
And no they're not going to go into production early. The timelines were set on this before the campaigns begin and they hadn't even completed the prototype, plus as noted, blocking out factory time isn't a spur of the moment thing, especially in the current environment. Plus Hasbro won't move to the big stuff until their money is in hand at the end of the campaign and they know the numbers they're producing. Which isn't to say NOTHING is being done. They're still refining the prototype and might start getting 3D modelling done for mold tooling and such but the nuts and bolts of production won't start until the campaign is over no matter what. It's great that Classified is having a highly successful crowdfund but let's not let our enthusiasm drive us into unrealistic expectations. Last edited by Jmacq1; 07-06-2022 at 06:46 AM.. |

As others have said, I'm glad we're getting the HISS.... but I'm struggling to think of another 'large-ish' size vehicle for 6". I can't think of anythig 'snazzy' enough on the Joe side that would qualify for the 'uniqueness' of HasLab... and I'd be afraid standard retail sized vehicles might not look as good *next* to the HISS... |

Agreed there. I'm still getting used to this forum, feels a bit different (mechanically) but was just going back through the thread and looking at the wonderful screen caps from the Live. I see where/why the clarified about the second jump seat, there do appear to be tracks in there to slide another one on. I also noticed that the weapon rack seems to have a pin/hinge on it... and I know it talked about some kind of battle platform (or something?!) We haven't seen/heard any clarification on that have we?

Depends on if they feasibly can. Someone posted earlier saying the design/engineering/etc teams may need every minute of the next 40-ish days to finalize sculpts, molds, etc. So there's more to starting early than "will they?" but more "can they?"
