Hey I lived near a Springfield back then too. Small world huh? ;)
Got some pretty rare (at least to me) stuff at SM back in the day. Captain Power, Centurions, MASK, Inhumanoids. All those non mainline short-lived toylines. Venture was great for GI Joe & He-Man. I remember when the 87 movie hit, they were the first to get them. Pretty hilarious this is a Pulse thread and we're now talking about Service Merchandise. Indeed Service Merchandise was on the pricey side. Only the high priced items were on the conveyors. I do remember buying some Transformers there & didn't need to use that system.
I remember there was a FLAGG displayed at the local Bergner's(bought out by Carson Pirie Scott later). I was quite enthralled by that display. Ace Hardware here also used to have a toy department. |

I believe that LaBelle’s, Best, and Service Merchandise were all the same company. I remember that I finally found Scarlett in 1983 at the LaBelle’s here. I looked for her all over town - Kmart, Target, KB Toys, Circus World, etc. and then finally found her there.

For some reason Mainframe was figure i had a hard time finding back in the day. Finally got him somewhere i think.

I loved going to stores back in the late 70s through the mid 90s. There were quite a few smaller toy stores in the mall nearest to me. I want to say it was called Circus or Circus something, but I could be wrong. There was a Kaybee Toys as well. At one time there was a Lionel Kiddie City and a Toys R Us at a mall 30 minutes away, which was cool. There were also the Kmarts and other dept stores which carried toys too.
My first Gi JOE was Snow Job, so I am thrilled he has been announced for 2023. My parents let me pick one up at a depart store during a day trip toward Allentown PA. I think it was called Lanco Dept Store; it was near Dorney Amusement Park. I just remember going into stores and seeing rows and rows of action figures... Star Wars ,GI Joe, Transformers, etc. It was amazing to see and I miss it. |

There's memories from the 80s & 90s, few I still have that come to mind...
Clik's grocery store where I got my first Joe Toys R Us having hundreds of vehicles on the shelves-remember getting the Swampmasher Hills, where I don't remember which ones specifically but I know I got Joes there |
