Has nobody been paying attention to the supply chain? The Food Processing Plants that are all mysteriously catching fire or being taken offline for one thing or another? The new rules on fertilizer transport? Etc, Etc, Etc...
The price of toys is about to seem insignificant. We are about to enter a situation we've never seen in our lifetimes. But lets keep worrying about Johnny Depp, Will Smith and Action Figure prices. Distractions. |

Aside from a couple 4" Retro figs that I'd still wanna buy, Hasbro ain't gonna get money from me. Price hikes no skin off my nose.

This won't effect me. I only collect 25th compatible 4 inch lines nowadays and Hasbro got out of that business.
Hasbro is going to hurt from this decision though. tons of people on the reddit Marvel Legends and Action Figure boards were talking about having to give up purchasing the Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black lines. They were a few posts showing what you get with a $30 Neca figure vs a $32 dollar deluxe Hasbro figure and Hasbro's accessories were pitiful. The economy is bad, gas and food prices are up, and inflation is hitting hard. $30+ bare bones action figures just aren't going to be worth it anymore to most people. I expect lines like Final Faction to rise and popularity, and a lot of companies to go back to 5 inch 5 POA toys or 4 inch/3 3/4th lines to come back as material prices are making 6 inch too expensive to make. I can see parents and kids buying a single figure for under $10 in the future, I can't see anyone but die hard collectors with disposable income buying any of the future Hasbro offerings at $30+ bucks a figure. |

We could stop buying Hasbro toys and start buying Hasbro stock.

On the Transformers side, Hasbro just took a massive risk by introducing this year's titan as some Cybertron thing at a whopping $200. Incredible.
The Ark didn't really move last year and now they're taking another risk, all while middle class homes are squeezed tighter and tighter for basic things. |

And the thing is, something some us realized decades ago, is that this has been a long time coming. We've been trading higher prices for necessities for cheap luxury goods (and, yes, toys are a luxury) for a long time now. It's our version of the Roman elite keeping the masses entertained and occupied with games and etc. It may not seem readily apparent, but we've been swallowing ever increasing cost on food and other necessity goods just so we could have cheap TVs and the like. I noticed years back that we were getting less of an item per unit and paying slight increases in the price periodically. Like, you'd maybe notice your brand of toothpaste went up a couple of cents, but probably not that the amount in the tube decreased. A common tactic has been to put out a bit more in package and advertise it ("10% more per bag free!"), but then when that sold through and the new stock of regular-sized product hit, that bag would now contain slightly less than the regular bag did before the promotion.
Anyway, it was always gonna catch up to us eventually, but this is a perfect storm accelerating things. And business has become so short-sighted in their thinking, all they can see is this is golden opportunity to fleece us for an extra percentage simply because the excuse is there. And I'm not talking strictly about Hasbro here. I'm more pissed off at companies like P&G making a shit-ton off of cleaning products and toilet paper or Conagra raking it in for overprocessed food.

I make an awful lot of money, so I find it fascinating that you wish to celebrate something that will barely impact my personal bottom line strictly because I'm irritated that it encroaches on my bottom line more than it has any right to do so.
You clap like seals for a corporation that's likely taking a far greater percentage out of your pocket than it is mine. Cue the "you just played yourself" DJ Khaled gif. EDIT: SmokeBellew, you're referring to "panis et circenses," which was less about dalliances in general and more about a deliberate effort to distract opposition to the Roman praetorians by giving them pitiful things to complain about. Which, I suppose, might include the distraction of complaining about people who complain about high prices. We dispute with each other instead of having expectations of the $5 Billion corporation to absorb some modest fiscal pain on account of global affairs. If we let them off the hook entirely, what does that say about our perceptions of them and our expectations of their commitments to ethical society?
