Suicide Prevention

I haven?t been online as much as I used to be, I purchased what Daytonians will know as the old Shenanigan?s Tavern on N. Main and will be converting it into an ice cream parlor. It is quite a change for me and my skillsets; and the best way to engage my plans with those curious were to discuss uplifting mural ideas seeing how the space is at a great breaking point down the hill and into the city.

One thing led to another and I connected with the Montgomery Co. ADAMHS foundation to put a positive mural about suicide prevention on its wall. We all know I'm not a "cause guy" but this avenue led me to be more active in this subject matter because my project is there to better the community.

All this is to say suicide is being recognized by our government and our health officials as sort of a new epidemic (my word choice) and a big fallout factor of being isolated during COVID and the general division and toxicity social media seems to be perpetuating. This isn't a "one-sided" tribal thing and has affected many facets and walks of life in my various circles. Please be alert in your personal lives if someone is even a hair off. In the last year, my spheres have had around ten suicides, too many of them were seemingly happy or just had positivity shine in their lives, only to be undone by almost a snap of the fingers.

My personal life in the last year was also inundated with suicidal threats by those close to me who either felt the totality of what they?re dealing with or felt the losses from suicide so deeply, they strongly considered joining as their only recourse. Too many friends who are parents with great, seemingly healthy (fantastic in my opinion) children, have vented their concerns to me because their kids are making statements that warrant school councilors to intervene and schedule meetings. And rightfully so on the part of the councilors, luckily (for lack of a better word) the kids don?t know how to vocalize their residual effects of being isolated (and the procedures around it) for such a great length of time but you never know. The theme of this post is ?you never know.?

People our age (including a very close friend who recently committed suicide and was arguably the ?least likely? to do so) used to joke or make light of movies like Heathers and the alternative music we grew up with was quite dower but even I have tried to check my sarcastic (however you would describe it) nature. I do care about everyone I have crossed paths with and please use the resources in the link as needed. If you think I might be someone to discuss something you feel is too uncomfortable to discuss in your primary circles, maybe I am far enough outside and offbeat enough to listen. I would never trivialize anyone's hangups but some reassurance is I've probably heard worse.
So the link below is 5% JMK show ?n tell and 95% visible proof that Montgomery Co. (Dayton) is taking steps to spread awareness and provide resources for those in need. I was blessed to have the Mayor and many prominent public servants attend this reveal of the first of many granted murals, again, stated to reinforce the importance of this issue. Take care.

Any ideas what happened to this Club?
