Seriously. I had it for one year, bought the RAH subscription, and they sent me some shitty naked Adventure Team figure. It's still somewhere in my storage.
Then they sent me some newspapers with poor print a a collector magazine. I don't remember what it cost me but I was pissed. |

So a bit of information for you guys based on the last few pages.
James had no afiliation to the old club other than being a member and being at all the old Joecons. When the license was pulled from Fub Pub (the old club) Hasbro wasn't interested in licnesing it to anyone else. I know of 2 different groups that approached Hasbro and were told no. The original collectors club wasn't official for several years either. They started participating after they saw the community and buzz it was bringing to the brand. Then when Fub Publications took it over they official licensed with Hasbro.

I wouldn’t be interested, necessarily, save for James. That dude is a crazy-cool cat who brought a ton of soul to the old Joecons (leopard skin bathrobe in Springfield, anyone?). He’s the kind of guy I’d follow off a cliff, knowing later I’d have to defend that decision to my mother.
My curiousity is peaked and will likely join, even if I’m not initially inclined towards another club membership.

And that's the biggest issue. If this is going to be in PRINT and just FOUR times a year... in a world where people are finding products at Target before they are even announced, just how is THIS going to be any relevant?
Newsletter: The GIJFC newsletter will be the hub for announcements, information, and entertainment. The newsletter will never try and mirror the ?up-to-the-minute? digital world but will strive to enhance the value of in-hand print, thus creating a sense of permanence. While the newsletter will strive to cover the widest array of different and exciting G.I. Joe topics, some reoccurring article themes will be: ? The latest G.I. Joe brand announcements. ? Hasbro product reveals.

Hasbro product reveals. I don't consider a membership card and the pins, buttons, and ribbons can't-miss items. I have a bin full of that stuff under my bed from Lootcrate, Warhammer, and all of the other things I'm a fan of. They're also everywhere in the department store trinket areas. I was watching the What's On Joe Mind? stream last night, and other viewers had some great ideas like cardboard dioramas being part of the subscription. That would add a lot of value because that technically is a toy. James didn't say no but it did sound like the logistics of that would be difficult and it's not on the table right now. He also addressed digital copies on that stream and basically said no they wouldn't be doing that. He then turned to Racktime Rob, the big comic collector in the group, who basically went "I have a ComiXology subscription...I use it to read in the dark, so I don't have to take a bunch of books with me, etc...but I have hardcopies! They're on the shelf over there!" and that kinda took the wind out of James' sails a bit on the topic of why no digital. tl; dr: I'm still on board even if I throw a bunch of junk in the big bin under the bed, but I have some real concerns as to the concept of this whole thing. |
