The "Commanders" is such a bland and uninspired choice for a team name. It's like they didn't even try. And you're right, it's not going to stop the fans from doing their chants and whatever else they want. I actually read an interesting article on https://zumroad.com/sport about how team names can affect fan behavior. Apparently, when fans identify strongly with a team name that they perceive as powerful and aggressive, they're more likely to engage in aggressive behavior themselves, like fights and vandalism. So I guess it's not surprising that some fans are resistant to the new name. It's kind of sad to think that the team might have spent so much money on a name that just isn't resonating with anyone. Maybe they should have just asked the fans for suggestions!
