Living in a free country we will be exposed to things we don't like.
We have to guard against "thought police" and have free press, free speech and the ability to have open and civil debate on issues. I am afraid that the general population not reading and understanding history is a dangerously bad trend. Yes, confederates were fighting against the United States of America during the Civil War. Those same people swore and oath of alliance and the country was reunited after the war. That same population was able to remain armed. We should not allow generational hatred to take hold in United States. Now, if Hasbro makes the figure. I hope it is a quality figure and a decent sculpt. It is up to us if want to buy it. Oh and even if I don't like the final version of the figure... I believe in Hasbro's right to make the figure or not. Edit: "Open and civil debate" is why I love Hisstank. The community is great a self-policing and we thankfully are not moderated into submission. V/R Along comes a new generation, deciding it is their birthright to sit in judgement of all peoples born before they were, and they will determine what is or is not to be tolerated to further exist within American history. And it's not just in the world of toys being affected. The Department of Defense is already in the process of renaming honored military installations and ships at sea and has planned to desecrate the memorial at Section 16 in Arlington National Cemetery. To be clear, I'm not correcting or judging anyone on this toy forum but expressing as a G.I. Joe collector to fellow collectors that I find cancel culture disturbing, to put it mildly.

Hasbro certainly understood this, and G.I. Joe adult collectors did too, as displayed in 1997-1998 with the Hasbro Kenner G.I. Joe Timeless Collection Civil War Series. General Robert E. Lee, Johnny Reb, and other veterans were treated with respect by toy designers and collectors alike who chose to collect action figures of them for display.

I one hundred percent believe we should be taught history as it was. We should not forget. That does not mean we have to glorify or respect a flag and rebellion that fought for the right to enslave other people. It spells it out pretty clearly if you go back and read history. Some of my ancestors fought in the confederacy but does not change the fact that it was wrong and treasonous. And I don't have to try to white wash what they did to make myself feel better about myself and who I am.

Not to be that guy, but I'm going to be that guy.
It's Native Americans, not "Indians", and not "American Indians" I'm sure there's no malice behind using these terms, but I cringe whenever someone does. The fact that a whole group of people got this label because one explorer dude thought he was somewhere different than where he actually was is embarrassing. I'm a white dude, so I probably shouldn't and couldn't comment on if this is offensive to indigenous people, but the fact remains that they're Americans. They're not from India and they never were. Sorry, rant over. Last edited by GIJohn88; 12-06-2022 at 04:18 PM.. |
