Saw a single PP BAT at a Target near me. I would have picked it up, but something looked off where the torse goes into the hips. I have two coming hopefully, so I don't mind giving it a pass.
I am convinced, considering how bad Target has been doing the year, in terms of retail sales, that they held back on the joes so it helps their fourth quarter. Three figues, what 10k of each, all dropping around Black Friday. An easy 750k or so. |

Why does Target go to the lengths they do to get exclusives? Why has Hasbro stopped supplying Classified figures to UK retailers after more of the collecting community in North America started re-importing the figures from Europe to bypass Target? Why the zipcode restrictions and dumb games to get consumers into stores? We like to think they are inept but I suspect Target US knows exactly where each dollar comes from and how to get more.

Do we know if Target generates the demand signal or does the manufacturer offer it? Either way, I would want it primarily to get customers with disposable income through the door so that they pick up other items as well.

Hasbro is the one soliciting the exclusives, not the other way around. They depend on that commitment of a certain dollar amount to keep a line going (or get it started - we probably wouldn't have Classified if Target hadn't gotten on board with exclusives). With the financing secured, Hasbro is free to start production knowing they won't be out any money. I doubt the buyers at Target give it much thought beyond that. The mainline releases are riskier from Hasbro's standpoint because they put up the money and start the production process not knowing how many units they'll ultimately be able to move. At least, that's my understanding of the process.
