Yeah, like when Hasbro renamed the 1/18 Marvel Universe line Marvel Legends Infinite... along with the 1/12 line and then did the same with Star Wars Black Series. It got confusing looking for 1/18 figures online when there were 1/12 listed as the same line for a bit.

I really really hope that Zavvi get these figures, like they did the Skystriker - so that those of us not living in USA or UK will get a chance to purchase.

even then, Target seems to have gotten their shit together in the last 6 months. The Cobra Island stuff has seen multiple restocks to the point that Baroness barely goes for more than retail on eBay, these days, and Barbecue is still currently available.

Obviously this is totally unofficial news, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but even given that constraint I still have concerns.
O-ring Snake eyes & Storm Shadow were $20 per, but all of the other GI Joe retro single figures have been $12-ish per. If these truly are new retro o-ring are they intended for retail or as online retailer/Pulse exclusives? If they are intended for retail how is Hasbro going to get away with the dollar disparity between the per for SE & SS and what Walmart would be/is asking for retro? If they mysteriously go up to $20, I'm a Joe nut so I'll probably still collect them, but that seems like an awful huge jump in price from the better engineered and better everything ME versions. That said the Super 7 5 POA figures are roughly $20 per, so perhaps this is just the way of things? Walmart is all about churn & burn with volume and not per figure price the order of the day, so perhaps a lower more competitive price point is to be expected with them, but still the price disparity between ME retro and o-ring retro is... well it's plainly weird. |

Even accounting for inflation the original O-ring figures would be under $10 if wide-release in retail today. AND oil prices are almost HALF what they were for the 1981-1985 figures. The only thing driving up the price now is that they are treated more as "boutique/collectible" items. If they were to commit to a true wide-release and treat them as a toy then we could see $9-11 figures. BUT retailers have to be willing to commit the space and time (which they have been unwilling to do) and consumers have to know they are there and buy them. My dream would be that mixed in with some re-releases for collectors they just CONTINUE the line. Release new figures with a totally consistent style and vision for the line and keep it on shelves at a price even working class parents can afford to pick up two or three for their kids.
