So I just recently got back into reading ARAH. I've read the original Marvel run over and over since I was a kid in the 80's, always enjoyed Larry Hama's work. There are some storylines I haven't cared for in the IDW ARAH run, but generally I've enjoyed most of it. Curiously, what are some of the things you don't care for in this book? I'm not defending it, per se. Just more curious what everyone's take is on it.

I thought this thread was about GI Joe comics in general.

I'd be in favor of an ARAH reboot but rather than make it a modern telling, place it back in the early 80s and go from there in real-time. Tell a retro story, with retro technology, that evolves, and let the characters age with the world they're in. Take inspiration from the other continuities (Marvel, Sunbow, DDP, etc.) where they're really good, but introduce plenty of new characters along the way as well, and don't be afraid to deviate, reimagine, or kill-off some sacred cows.

Seemingly confirmed that IDW will lose GI Joe and Transformers at the end of the year. IDW will continue publishing My Little Pony and Dungeons and Dragons, though. AFAIK, Boom still has Power Rangers locked down. There is no word on who will be taking over comics for either brand, though Robert Kirkman's Skybound has been rumored to have expressed interest in Transformers.

They had a few good runs with Transformers, but GI Joe has never been able to pull out of the rut it's been in since about 1991.

1992 was the line's second most successful year. It was on the verge of going "evergreen" until corporate politics caused a disruption that took almost half a decade to correct. Joe was among the first brands to really capitalize on the 80s resurgence at the turn of the century, with a successful comic and toy relaunch. Through the "nusculpt" years, Joe largely held its own with Transformers until corporate politics, again, caused Hasbro to move away from the solid but not spectacular sales to try something new for the sake of trying to make retailers more money. Another disruption, but one that I don't think GI Joe has ever REALLY rebounded from.

My local comic shop was saying that Larry was in talks with Marvel again, I don't know in what capacity but interesting to hear.
I personally don't think the ARAH comic is done regardless of where Hasbro sends the property. I've enjoyed every issue, some more than others but can't see it coming to an end with how Hasbro has been pushing the brand and getting ready to celebrate the 40th with the return of the o-ring line. |

I'm not sure if Matt Gildea is still Hasbro's publishing director, but it wouldn't be that difficult for them, or Entertainment One, to publish a comics line for any/all their properties.
