I saw the re-enactment of the Hasbro pitch meeting, which would have taken place around 1980-81 at the latest. When the guy doing the pitch hands the exec a fully painted production Hawk v2 figure from 1986, I yelled "F--- this!" at the screen.
The re-enactments were entirely cringey, and I absolutely loathe the way History network insists that all these dubious "documentary" shows be plastered in voiceover written in present tense as if it's happening right now ("Ruth shows the doll to her investors. They reject the idea, so she comes up with a new idea," and so forth). For what it's worth, I also really dislike Netflix's The Toys that Made Us, which I find irritatingly condescending to the subjects it covers. |
