Has there been any word on Hasbro doing anything for the movie's anniversary? It seems to typically be brushed to the side. I know a lot of people dislike it, but I love that ridiculous thing. It's bonkers crazy in all the right ways for me. Plus, Serpentor dies. Sorry for the spoiler. Though I guess we don't know that he died for sure. I mean he was tossed into some bottomless pit. I guess he could still be alive. Now I'm going to sit here smiling imaging Serpentor falling forever. He's still falling now.
People just hate the cobra la stuff but I find it cool and how can you not like nemesis enforcer love his figure hope he gets classified one day. |

Duke was meant to die but the reaction of Prime dying they rewrote it, never made sense to me as a kid Hawk crying while saying Duke is fine lol

They almost had it in Sunbow. Had they kept CC around and instead revealed that his whole plot to rule the world was because he knew about this existential threat (Cobra La) that nobody believed him about, then Cobra becomes the "grey hat" faction and not the absolute bad guy. That change alone could have easily carried GI Joe into the '90s with an evolving story and a whole new dynamic, and maybe the space stuff might not have seemed so contrived. Instead the brand continues to be more about the brand name ad infinatum, and not what people throw their money at. Stupid. |

In order to begin evolving GI Joe and revitalize it, they need to get some momentum with the brand again. And it appears the best way to do this is to use classic designs to tug on nostalgia. Not sure what the next move is as the Snake Eyes movie bombed. Maybe an animated show aimed more at adults on Netflix or Amazon? If Robert Kirkman gets his hands on the comic book license, maybe he can spin his comic efforts into a show at Amazon as he is already setup there with Invincible.

Cobra is carrying Classfied, Cobra carried the Haslab, and Cobra carried the RAH line from about 1987 to 1994. It's what makes this brand unique. Anything they stuck a Cobra logo on was and is guaranteed to sell faster than something that didn't. It's like Hasbro's in a bizarro world where Spider Man exists, but they decide to push the hell out of Doc Ock as the main character, or in wrestling if Vince decided to bury Steve Austin in squash matches instead of push him to the moon. |

The problems plaguing the brand now are the same ones we had in 1987. Kids and now adults want the same shit they wanted back in the day.

I think I had more Joe than Cobra and that the team's diversity helped a lot. If I wanted to be a doctor I had Doc and eventually Lifeline.
When I got bored of that and wanted to have a flamethrower I had Blowtorch. I had characters with jobs (besides ninja) that actually exist or existed within the military or law enforcement. Not having a central character was never a big deal for me, though I understand that wasn't the case for everybody growing up. |

I always thought Cobra was cooler looking than GI Joe, even as a kid. I also didn't find the lack of a main character as a problem. One of the cool things about Joes were that I could make them any characters in any scenario I invented in my head.

That's the path Hasbro continues to go down with Cobra even though nothing about it makes any sense. |
