Many people in this thread have expressed reasons why they are not (yet) backing the SS haslab. Many have also said they would back it if it were ME compatible. How is that either a) expecting anything, or b) unreasonable? edit: here's the "covered way earlier" part Quote:
I strongly disagree based on the following:
1. most vehicles released during the ME run were ARAH rereleases, including many with no re-tooling whatsoever (Rattler, Conquest, SHARC, MOBAT, FLAK, Wave Crusher... and that's just a few from the first couple years). 2. Hasbro appears to keep referring to the new O-ring releases as the future of the Retro line. 3. They're all Joes of the same damn size. We're not talking about 12-inch, Sigma Six, Classified, Extreme, or even Sgt. Savage, we're talking about 3.75-4-inch G.I. Joe action figures and vehicles. There has never been compatibility between 12ish, 6ish, and 4ish inch toys and we all know it. But speaking as someone whose collection is split roughly 60/40 ME/O-ring and who actually uses and displays them together (blasphemy, I know) most vehicles, playsets, weapons, and accessories have always been cross-compatible, with the one major exception of back- and foot-peg holes. Yes, there are other size differences (heads-to-helmets, weapons-to-hands, etc.) but anyone who kitbashed their Joes back in the day should know that those differences have always existed. Just because my Star Brigade Duke doesn't fit in the cab of my VAMP, while his helmet is too small to fit on Tunnel Rat, doesn't mean they're all from different toy lines.

I inquired with support about qty. limit of 5 per account and they never responded. Did anyone try ordering more than 5 on 1 pulse account yet?

So I get the ME vs O-Ring debate. I get why that would kick some people off the fence.
For me, it’s not THAT big of a reason why I am on the fence. I still use vintage vehicles for my ME stuff. If the figures don’t fit inside the vehicles, it’s fine for me as GI Joe isnt exactly the guiding light/bible for scale. For me it’s about how it will fit in with the 8 other Skystrikers I currently own. I don’t mind if it’s an inch or two bigger, but if its 6-7” bigger, I may have to pass. The only thing that does bother me about the currently issue of ME vs O-ring is that I wish they would tell us what the end game is. There will now be 3 variants of Joes. I get that the majority of people want 6 inch, but it’s not for me (and most likely selling off the classified figures I currently have) since I love vehicles and they aren’t conducive for vehicles. If they are going with O-Ring from here on out as the 1/18 scale of choice, that’s fine, just tell us. I was saddened at the ME death in 2016, but got over it thanks to Star Wars, Hiya, Joy Toy, and MGR. The teased my heart with the reintroduction of ME with the new vintage line, but the new molds and repaints/repacks were disappointing. The ME bucks were amazing and the new bucks feel like a Chap Mai version of Joes. I am disappointed in the line. I understand they moved factories and then COVID happened, so I was hopeful that things would improve, but then all the O-Rings started coming out via Haslab and the Pulse exclusives. I am cool if the O-Ring is a 40th anniversary thing and not a new direction, I just want to know one way or another. A What sucks is that I used to love O-Rings beyond all else. I grew up in the best years of 80’s Joes and they saved my sanity from a terrible home situation. The Joes took me away from the trauma in my life growing up. I held onto my Joes (and some made the move with me) through college and retrieved them all from my moms house after college. But then Hasbro led me astray and I gave up my morals. They introduced me to the gateway drug of ME’s and then shot me up with the magic juice that was POC. I never looked at my O-Rings the same again and they’ve been sitting in tubs ever since. Due to POC, I am jaded toward the new vintage line. I can build better joes in the POC look with MGR. I also really want to see a painted product and hope they will weather it to make all those new panels pop. |

These are the numbers for the last seven days:
23rd- 5,654 (plus 31) 24th- 5,677 (plus 23) 25th- 5,725 (plus 48) 26th- 5,757 (plus 32) 27th- 5,787 (plus 30) 28th- 5,809 (plus 22) 29th- 5,820 (plus 11) So in 7 days it added 197 backers, making the average 28 per day. I think my guess was 40 per day, so it's lower than that. Has there been a previous GI Joe HasLab? I wonder how this failing would affect Hasbro's decision to try another one. They've already seen Star Wars succeed even though the rancor will most likely fail because of stretch goals. I'm not sure exactly how big GI Joe's fanbase is. At least outside of the vintage collecting market. I've looked for classified figures at a few local Walmarts and Target, and they barely make room on the shelves for them. Just maybe 2 pegs and then the HISS III and those cheap 12" Snake Eyes that they always have a ton of. There's no GI Joe sign in the aisles like Transformers and Marvel so I had to scan the aisle just to find the tiny section with barely a handful of items to choose from. Plus the figures are all at collector item prices rather than play toy prices, even the small retro figures. How many parents are buying their kids a collection of action figures at $13-$23 or more a piece? They'd have to be relying on the adult market I'd think. |

She announced yesterday that they will be roughly the same size.

Hmmm...Ok. Maybe it's failing because it's boring and uninspired, then. But maybe just MAYBE a retooled and "Largest Skystriker Ever Made" could have actually excited more collectors. That was my ENTIRE point. Which you missed OR chose to ignore completely. Because one thing is for certain. The "vast" O-Ring community ain't gonna make this thing happen.
Yes. It fucking matters. And I wasn't just referring to the cockpit. The entire. Fucking. Plane. If you don't get it (or care) that's fine. But don't fucking talk down to us from some collector moral superiority high centaur. I didn't back it. For all the reasons you mentioned and because me buying my 5th damn near identical Skystriker for triple the fucking price ain't happening. EDIT: 'Frame beat me to it. Know why? Because it's fucking OBVIOUS. 1. We won?t know if it failed until Hasbro pulls the plug. Period. 2. We won?t know why it failed if it does. To stridently argue that the potential reason for failing is because it didn?t accommodate ME collectors is pure speculation. Which is fine but it leads to my final point? 4. It is what it is. The project and tiers have been announced, the price is set, the size is set, the features are set, it?s for o-ring figures. The arguments have been had. Some of us are backing, some aren?t. Some of us are really excited, some aren?t. As we approach the end we?re seeing some of those who aren?t into the product ratchet up the negativity, hoping that it will fail so they can dance on the grave and be proven right. I?m not talking about occasional criticism, it?s a constant drumbeat from a few people. Maybe they think Hasbro will suddenly change course, make the plane larger and add a ME compatible cockpit and reduce the price to $40? Regardless, It?s redundant, tiresome and makes this thread unbearable for those of us who are excited about the project. Just my two cents, from now on I?m just scrolling past the negativity. |
