Considering how far out these things are from conception to execution, I can't help but think that this was intended to coattail on the movie's release- I don't recall the initial projected release for the film, but I do recall hearing that it had been postponed. I think it's more comedy of errors than bad decision making, TBH.

Hasbro used the Top Gun license for Transformers, so it seems more a missed opportunity to not apply it to the SkyStriker, even if there was a push to "tie it" to the film.
Still, amazing that I'm saying this in hindsight, but for what we ended up getting in this HasLab, it's a decent value even if we didn't get an O-Ring Goose.

But I guessed back when this thread started that the Skystriker Haslab was supposed to happen with TG:M's revised release date, until it was pushed back farther. But Hasbro had already done the logistics regarding manufacturing and had to go forward anyway. |

oh, yeah I don't take anything for gospel. I was more or less saying thanks for sharing your perspective and it made a lot of sense and seems very plausible.

Legal rights can be a bit foggy, but considering Lanard had a Top Gun: Maverick set out when the movie was FIRST set to come out, I doubt Hasbro could release a competing 1:18th scale set. The Transformers are a different play factor and legally are not direct competition.

The lanard top gun set looks nothing like an F-14 or skystriker. Hasbro doesn't even need to market with top gun whatsoever. Just riding the after burner of the top gun movie hype would have been enough to send it into a Mach 10 overdrive. I know I for one feel the need, the need for speed.... after watching it lol.
ok after my cringy reply I'm seeing myself off the forums for a while haha. Yeah, the Lanard stuff looked bad, but I'm sure they had a lock on the movie license. But if Hasbro had been able to launch the Haslab at the same time as the movie, I bet we would have gotten "ketchup and mustard " |

Hasbro is well aware of that pair's popularity. With the soft reboot I can totally see them coming as a two-pack given the body mold will already exist for the Cobra version. Just need to tool up the head.

I saw some speculation a few pages back about the size of the box, and talk of taking a day off work to be home for it. For previous Haslabs, it has been signature required. So if you aren't home, you'll have to get it from the FEDEX location itself. I opted to have it arrive at my local Walgreens (most Walgreens are FEDEX partners, similar to Amazon & Kohl's). They have lockers they lock it in, and then unlock it and have you sign when you arrive.

The Skystriker update today was great. To see a colored version of it made me really happy I decided to back it on the final day. I've been on a real F-14 kick this month after Top Gun Maverick came out. So much to detail in this new Skystriker that I feel like it's really worth the price.
