I remember when everyone found out beanie babies were selling for stupidly high prices to collectors, so tons of people went out and bought every release with the expectation of being able to flip them at a large profit later on. But now that tons of people all had the same piece of crap they never intended to keep, there was excess supply. Can anyone guess what that did to the prices?
Kinda like baseball cards. Cards from the 1940's were commanding insane prices in the 1980's. Rookie cards were a big deal. So everyone started buying, collecting, and preserving baseball cards hoping to cash in one day down the road. I did, too. None of my cards are worth anything. I still have a 1993 sealed first-year complete team set of cards for the Marlins that I was sure were going to bring me at least a few hundred dollars by now. Any guesses how much this well-preserved complete team set from the first year of a team's existence goes for today? About $4 o.b.o. Granted, it's the Marlins, but I think I paid about that much for the set 27 years ago. I'm not saying we're there yet with the Joe Haslab, but there is a tipping point on this kind of stuff. I'm still holding sealed club figures from the final wave that never appreciated in value the way I hoped. It happens. Nobody should be gambling on this with money they can't afford to lose. Just a sobering reminder incase anyone needs it.

It is interesting to me that the announcements and videos have not moved much at all. Two weeks ago we were at 5404 orders; one week at this time 5616. Today, 5817.
Slow but steady with 8.5 days to go. I'd much rather see this extend to January. I don't see this creating much momentum at all, and consumers are going to miss a midnight Tuesday (Tuesday?!?) end date in the middle of the Christmas shopping season.

Surely this community is large & strong enough to eek out 10k buyers before the current deadline?!? I'd be shocked if we don't at least hit 10k. If not well then this community is much smaller than I originally assumed and I can see why Joe has been on the shelf for awhile and not a priority at retail until the recent movie push.
1) This is something consumers have seen many times before for much cheaper 2) (related) it received zero marketing push/updates for the first 30 days of its 45 day funding period. We had zero idea how the product was updated, improved, and different from what we've seen in the past until we saw the first video from the team a week or so back. 3) the timing of this relative to Christmas makes it harder for consumers to justify spending their discretionary income on themselves. 4) By the time the above happened, including the cardbacks for the stretch goals, consumers who might be on the fence see how far off we are from those with so little time to go and say "well that's nice, but we're not going to hit the stretch goals." Death by a thousand cuts - an accumulation of shortcomings on the promotions and marketing side. Hasbro being caught flat-footed with the success of Classified is a clear sign that the market for GI Joe surpassed their expectations, so this failure (if it happens) shouldn't be seen as a failure of the brand, or in interest in O-Rings (which has been neither proven nor disproven at this point), but of the specific HasLab. At a bare minimum, between Skystriker and Rancor, Hasbro has learned a ton about how to improve their strategic operations to get HasLabs to succeed. I make a pretty good living, and can personally understand this mentality. But I do not agree with it. $30 can be, after taxes, a few hours' work for some folks. Or it can be 30 minutes or less for others. If you're in the latter category, it is quite cruel to tell someone in the former category they are ostensibly a cheapskate for having a price threshold. Someone whose mentality is "it's only $30 difference" should be willing to paypal a few Hisstankers that money to complete the purchase of a skystriker if they're so indifferent to the value of $30.

Some People collect and some people are trying to make money. Some are doing both (buying two to sell one to pay for yours). There is no one size fits all and it is a business (collecting I mean).

Honestly, their videos and announcements have been weak. Why not SHOW up file cards and carded figures? Instead they just TELL us about it? Why not give us a side by side comparison? A painted prototype? Some good photos of the model? There has been very little that we've actually seen - if you think about it. 3D Renderings are one thing - but it's hard to pull the trigger when that's all we're going on.
