The only people I saw criticizing the Skystriker were the ME folk. I understood where they were coming from being on the that side of the fence when it was o ring being neglected.
I agree the skystriker was more iconic and was the correct choice for the first haslab. However with the current prices for a complete vintage, no ME versions as an alternative, and overall brittle nature of the Whale, hasbro will be printing money if they choose to do that for round 2. Another point about the HISS is that they got Ron Rudat to design the early bird figure, which in and of itself really builds incentive. |

We can Monday quarterback SkyStriker until we're blue in the face. It had a decent launch, a lot of anger and debate about value (I was definitely part of it), and the "Cobra Takeover" helped it cross the line and convey a lot of value to the overall product.

I'm so excited I backed the Haslab Skystriker. I was cool to get an update about it. It would have been really interesting if the Skystriker Haslab was done during a time where it didn't have any real competition, and if it had an early bird incentive, because I believe it would have funded a lot earlier. The HISS is an awesome Haslab IMO and it priced appropriately, and is totally deserving of the success, but I think the early bird and the lack of competition really propelled it to fund quickly, and I'm not taking credit away from it's design and everything it offers, cause it's great. The reality is though that the Skystriker was competing with quite a few other Haslabs at the same time, in addition to the Roboskull (which could be considered direct competition), and it didn't have and early bird, so people's money was spread thin across multiple projects, and there wasn't any incentive to jump in at the beginning... The Skystriker ultimately funded very well towards the end, so it all worked out, but I just hope that Hasbro doesn't get the impression that there's less interest in the retro o-ring line because it took more time to fund, or required things like the Cobra hack to create incentive, because it faced more obstacles to begin with, and funded really well despite those obstacles. I hope Hasbro realizes that early birds and lack of competition really play into the early success of these campaigns, and will implement them in future o-ring and Classified campaigns.

The Cobra Hack showed the Joe team understood how to give much needed positive buzz to the project and they definitely have learned from Skystriker with their Hiss Tank lunch. I also think it benefited from the much worse negative buzz surrounding Rancor campaign in comparison.

I do wonder how many folks would be buying more than one WHALE compared to buying more than one Skystriker for a Flagg deck.

I took what they said about that as they were going back to his old, rejected, designs from 40 years ago. Not having him design something new now. I could be wrong though.

That?s right that the figure is getting a design based on a variant Rudat designed, but I?m pretty sure Lenny said that they worked with Rudat to implement that design, cause Lenny continued on to gush over the experience of having the opportunity with a childhood hero. Someone correct me if I?m wrong, but I?m pretty sure that?s what happened, which was why that early bird figure is not just some random figure. Now I need to rewatch the stream lol.

I believe they said that the design for the Cobra Tactician will be a previously unused concept but that the box art for the HISS Tank Driver and Tactician will be new art illustrated by Rudat.

At $229, this Skystriker is looking like a hell of a bargain, considering the pile of carded figures it comes with. I suspect that there will be quite a few people filled with regret, once these bad boys start shipping out.
