I think the time has passed for GI JOE to be big again. I don't think the execs see a future in it because it's based on modern day warfare as the theme. They're ok with lasers or super power battles or even something from the past but not modern combat. I really believe that's why they tried giving the classified figures laser guns at first. Movies with modern combat and weapons, like say John Wick, are hugely popular but are not for kids and not for making toylines. Transformers, lasers, starwars, lasers, he-man, magical swords, etc. Gi Joe just doesn't work as a brand Hasbro can easily sell. That's really why Snake Eyes focused on ninjas and sword fights and not modern warfare. When Scarlet broke out her machine pistol near the end it was pretty jarring.
Until Hasbro can reconcile that Gi Joe is a kids toyline, but also about fighting with guns and bombs they won't be able to pitch it externally to retailers or internally for future development of toys or movies. Fingers crossed that the new team has a plan/vision for how to move Gi Joe forward.

That's because the A Real American Hero characters are diametrically opposed to Hasbro's emasculating and anti-military values, ethics, philosophy as a company. If Hasbro were to move away from away from A.R.A.H. they would have the freedom to do something else. Quote:
Or if the Action Force project is successful Hasbro is going to be like, "Oh. That's how you successfully market a military themed line." and they'll do what Vala did.
