I just peeped something on the COBRA Officer. See those four gray squares right above the laser pistol? You can paint those different colors to denote rank even further. For example you can paint all four of those squares gold and then you have the COBRA Command equivalent to a colonel.

Am I the only one that thinks the Cobra Officer seems like a downgrade from the Infantry Trooper? Not as much detail and too bland. I hope going to more classic designs doesn't add up to less detail and less paint apps. Something is off about the Alley Viper too. The art had a glowing eye on the visor and blue arm gauntlets along with less blue on the helmet and the art had the shield cobra being blue. Actually, his vest is totally different. I liked the new look and I wish they had stuck with that for the Alley Vipers.
I think there was a black paldron too. My guess is that its an upgrade but won’t know till it comes in hand. I think the 5 mm pegs into the back was okay but an actual holster is better |

What I want is for Hasbro to have the smarts to make modern and ARAH inspired versions. Everyone wins.

The paint app at times can be questionable, but shoulder and shin guard helped modernize the Joe’s. Those shoulder and shin guards also made the Cobra Troopers look way better. Breaker is a good example of needing more paint app. He’s just a green grunt. They could have broken up all that green with more black, some wash, even a painted belt would have done wonders for him so it doesn’t look like he’s wearing a one piece. There’s a dive among people who just want plain 80’s 6” vs. more modern look which is perfectly fine. I got the tradition SS cause he’s a ninja. Ninjas don’t age when it comes to aesthetics, but I hope to get a more modern one like the artworks I’ve seen down the road.

In fact, the Officer gives me some hope we will see a Sunbow/V1 CC wearing those same gloves in the future.

That’s perfectly fine cause I’m sure there will be people that feel the same way about what you want. If you don’t like it, you don’t need to buy it. Just wait for the next remold, or redeco.

I spent the last decade collecting figures that were mostly remakes of the original. I have no desire to do it all over again from scratch, even if this scale gives us a little more detail. That's not to say I'm against some figures sticking close to the original design. I just don't want the entire line to be just that. The folks making these figures are extremely talented, and yeah they could play it safe and just remake old designs, but I'd rather see them engage their creativity, even if it means the occasional misstep. As others have said, there's room for both classic designs and stylized reimaginings. It shouldn't have to be one or the other. |
