Who is Shang Chi? My friend texted me that him and his son loved it but I haven't had the chance to talk to him about it. I've never heard of the character at all.

One of the main characters of the best selling Marvel comics of the 80s lost to an obscure Marvel character from the 70s, in a martial arts movie during a pandemic. There's absolutely no excuse after that for anyone involved.

Honestly, Hollywood should just shutdown and stop making movies. Everything is a fuqqin reboot, remake, sequel, prequel, superhero movie. Anything slightly original and Hollywood still finds a way to fuq it up. Great! That’s all I need the fuqqin mouse turning Baroness, Scarlett and others into Disney Princesses. And portray men as useless idiots because that’s the cool thing to do now. Yeah, bring on G.I. Jane and watch it become the biggest flop in movie history. Remember when a big budget movie made less than $150 million opening weekend, it was considered a disaster. Now with just $50 million they’re all honky dory because all the streaming shit and on DVD/BD within 3 months. Damn, I remember when one had to wait almost a year to buy a movie they saw in the theaters.

Someone sent this article to my movie blog. The piece details Jim Gianopulos' untimely ouster, and how it relates to the end of old Hollywood. Seems fitting to share, considering all the pining for the (distant) past taking place in this thread (and on the forum):

Shang grossed in North America $119 million, but costed around $150–200 million to make and market. Snake-Eyes was made for for less at $88-110 million. The demninsihing returns of the GI JOE movies should've been a wake up call, same goes for their Transformers films which is the only thing comparable to Marvel. Disney/Marvel gives their movies great production and often good stories regardless of its faults or the movie is mediocre.
GI JOE is certainly no Marvel Cinematic Universe film series and universe. It as not even been a good or famous fan favorite comic since probably the 1980's sadly. |

That plus the fact that outside of toy nerds (ie. the bulk of humanity) Paw Patrol is more popular than GI Joe.

Certainly “GI Joe” name itself is never going to be a big Force at the box office. |
