While I agree with you to some degree I do not think a vehicle that large would be successful in a strictly retail or online retail exclusive environment. I just don't see mainstream support or many big box stores giving it the shelf space it would demand. The Star Wars Black Series Tie Fighter even struggled to find it's place. While it's true the vintage HISS isn't complex, tackling the HISS as a crowd funded campaign basically insures it would be incredible AND successful. As you stated "People would eat those up." A crown funded campaign would give the designers a chance to really pump in a tremendous amount of detail and extras such as segmented and functional treads, removable panels for weapons storage, engine cover (with removable engine?) cockpit seats that could change position, LED lights etc. The could go crazy and still keep it around $275.

The Walmart-exclusive retro line just isn't big enough to warrant a related HasLab. I'm still hoping for a new 1:18 sculpt blending the best properties of o-ring and modern era figures but I digress.

My Most Wanted Playsets
5)The Moutain Horwizter with any combination of Zap, Recondo, or v1 Grand Slam. 4) The G. I. JOE Watchtower with Gung Ho in his v1 colors and some random JOE. To get the best dollar value JOEs the size of Gung Ho and RB should be able to fit inside of the watchtower. 3) Checkpoint Alpha with any combination of Mutt and Junkyard, Law and Order or Alpine. 2) G. I. JOE Jump with v2 Grand Slam and/or v1 Stalker. The Jump set should include that bundle of dynamite that came with Firefly and a Sunbow laser pistol and rifle. 1) The Mobile Missile System with v1 Hawk, Steeler and/or a JOE who's m.o.s. is artillery. When I originally made this list the COBRA Missile Command Headquarters was number one, but I kept my list to things that Hasbro would realistically make. My Wanted Vehicles 5) Swamp Skier with variant Dreadnoks 4) G. I. JOE Silver Mirage with either Bazooka, Mutt & Junkyard, or V1 Duke 3) COBRA C.L.A.W. with COBRA Officer 2) COBRA Night Landing with V1 Firefly or a COBRA Eel. 1) COBRA F.A.N.G. with F.A.N.G. pilot

Skystriker with Ace versus Rattler with Wild Weasel. A two-pack Haslab project.

I see a lot of these nominations that could realistically be pulled off at Retail. Dragonfly is one that most definitely could be a retail exclusive. There's not a lot too it. It's actually much smaller than my memory says it is.

I'm not sure we're looking at this the right way.
Remember, anything that comes from a HASLAB project is unlikely to get re-released- at least without getting re-decoed and/or retooled. Remember how unfortunate the VAMP MK II re-release was? The classic deco was exclusive with the digital/urban deco being the common release. Of course, this is a bigger opportunity than an SDCC or other Con exclusive. HISS tanks and other vehicles at that size/price point are likely to get made in the long run. We don't have to ask for HISS tanks and VAMPs. They'll happen organically with time. What if a Haslab project was, say, a room? Like the GI Joe command center, with Sparks and Colonel Sharp? or Dr. Mindbender's laboratory (with special B.A.T.S., a Brainwave scanner, SNAKE armor which could be released later) and an operating table/Serpentor frankenstein zap-table? Maybe just a HUGE catalogue of small accessories/battlefield posts? You could put ALL of the original sets from the Cobra Rifle Range all the way to the GI Joe Bivouac together along with checkpoints and outposts. Not only would this be a huge boon to displays, but it would increase the catalog of accessories that could be released in other ways/colors/decos EXPONENTIALLY. MAYBE the Haslab project is a MASSIVE army-builder lot with unique unit patches and decos. The draw would be the sheer number (Say, 5 Of each of 5 different kinds of troops, breaking them into units of an officer, a sergeant/NCO and three troops each). Unique decos, unit patches and accessories would allow them to be peppered into existing troops while maintaining that collectability. Kind of like the Cobra Nightwatch sets, but imagine you get a repainted set of 5 Troopers, 5 Vipers, 5 Alley Vipers, 5 Kitchen Vipers and 5 BATS or whatever for a total of 25. Add in a parade flag and dio-stands or special accessories. Joe nerds would sell their own MOMS for that. Realistically, since we're getting the RAM and likely a VAMP and possibly MOBAT, I think the best HASLAB project for starters would be a 1/12 scale take on the GI Joe HQ playset.
