Hasbro/Paramount needs to fire (or buy out the contract of) di Bonaventura

I'm honestly surprised they just haven't straight up lifted the comics and just modernized it. The narrative industry would straight up have you believe it's happening IRL with how much they talk about disillusioned Americans turning into extremists and how involved in politics businessmen and corporations are.
Not to mention PMC's, which seems like the logical place to take MARS and Destro IMO. |

I saw on another forum someone said Kevin Feige was in meetings with studio executives wondering aloud "How do we adapt this into a movie," where he replied by holding up a comic book and saying, "Why don't we use this? They've already done the work for us." I'd tell Hasbro to make Feige part owner of their company and pay him a fortune to quit Marvel and reboot their Joe and Transformers franchises, and make their other toys into films. But why these IDIOTS can't figure out the obvious that every fan knows as well as Feige does is extremely frustrating and baffling. Hollywood has gotten quite a lot of adaptations right in recent years. G.I. Joe is still stuck forty years in the past when Hollywood always thought they knew better than the people who wrote the material they wanted to "cash in on" with an adaptation.
I wanted Snake-Eyes to fail, but this box office is a freakin' gangland-style execution. It's down to SEVENTH place, being beaten by Black Widow in its 4th week and Space Jam in its 3rd, while both are available on streaming. This is like dancing on someone's grave at this point. I almost feel sorry for them. This is a supreme embarrassment for the G.I. Joe brand.

Some people have made a valid point that it might be more interesting to have a hero who is initially flawed and does bad things, but then has a redemption arc. The problem is that I didn't see a believable redemption arc in this movie. Snake Eyes is responsible for the destruction of the Arashikage temple and the killing of numerous clan members yet is given a cool ninja suit by the clan, yet Storm Shadow, who broke the rules even though he did it to save the clan, is punished for his actions. It just doesn't leave you with the belief that Snake Eyes is anything other than the selfish jerk he started out as in this movie.
Anyway, I am done giving this movie any more space in my brain. As far as I am concerned this movie can fade away into oblivion. I have cancelled all my preorders having to do with the movie merchandise and won't watch this film again. If I want to see variations of the true nature of the character I can reread some of the better comics by Marvel Image/DDP, or IDW, or watch his depiction in Spy Troops, Valor vs Venom, Sigma 6, Resolute, Renegades, Rise of Cobra, or Retaliation. Any of them are better than this latest movie which I seem to have forgotten the name of. |

The one thing Transformers had over G.I. JOE movie wise was the executive producer Steven Spielberg. I wonder what would have happened if he was overseeing G.I. JOE.

All of the movies that have come out in the last month or two since the pandemic started to wane have had very sharp drop offs. Even Black Widow. Super fans are going out the first week and no one else is going to movies. This is not indicative of anything other than the pandemic still fucking things up.

Nope, coming in second to a low-budget movie in its first week was indicative, and dropping to SEVENTH in its second weekend behind movies that have been out for weeks, and are also available on streaming, is highly indicative of a terrible box office performance.

Snake Eyes' only hope is streaming and Home Release now. Even so, it's going to be an uphill climb just to reach breakeven.
Snake Eyes must make $220 million in total to breakeven. It is likely that it's not gonna happen and the movie will end up as a loss. |
