I liked it. Would watch more movies in this continuity. Hope the Joe renaissance can continue but not sure this helps. Probably matters not much at all to what the nerds think. Has to appeal to the general public.

Tell the origin story from the comics, if done well you will satisfy ALL of us that have been here since the beginning and the new fans will enjoy it as much as we did the first time. Hasbro doesn’t have a clue under Goldner’s (lack of) leadership. I’m convinced that jerk would sell his mother for a movie credit. He wants so bad to be viewed as a ‘Kevin Fiegie’ type. Their arrogance helps them forget that great comic book storylines from Marvel built the MCU! It should of/could of be the same with GI Joe. Oh well maybe in another eight years.
on websites and YouTube videos, but this has brought negativity gushing out of me. I may take a hiatus from Joe related social media to get past these feelings. |

There's still more pandemic paranoia? One article said something like 99.5% of any new cases leading to sickness are among the unvaccinated. And plenty of articles say the vaccines work against this "scary" new variant. The vaccinated don't have to worry about getting sick now.
Here's what Deadline wrote about Snake-Eyes, the relevant quotes from their box office report. Funny, they actually recommend that the movies follow the comic books more. And their demographic breakdown looks to me like the older fans stayed away from the movie in droves. It seems like it appealed more to teens who do not understand the history of the ARAH storyline. https://deadline.com/2021/07/snake-e...ce-1234798883/ Two releases respecting the theatrical window –Universal’s Old and Paramount’s Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins– are opening at the box office to blah results. And in regards to the M. Night Shyamalan notching the lowest wide opening of his career with Old with $15.75M after a $6.88M Friday, and Paramount’s Snake Eyes seeing $14M after a $5.5M Friday, it’s clear from the respective exits of these films, a CinemaScore of C+ and B-, that no one was ever excited about these movies. Add to that an awful 61% positive, 37% recommend for Old from Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak and a 69% positive and 46% recommend for Snake Eyes. And the respective Rotten Tomatoes scores for both films at 52% Rotten and 42% aren’t exactly advertising ‘must-see’. Some blame the sluggishness of Snake Eyes on the fact that Henry Golding isn’t a marquee draw. Also in regards to Snake Eyes, as I mentioned yesterday, Paramount and Hasbro haven’t exploited the G.I. Joe properties aggressively like Transformers in the last 12 years. Why, then, should anyone suddently care about Snake Eyes? If you’re going to reboot the franchise with a $110M spin-off, best to make a movie which wins on all fronts like a Marvel movie, and rises above its fanboy kitschy IP. Make it smarter than it’s suppose to be. G.I. Joe in the 1980s wasn’t all toy and TV show: the IP had a great long-running storyline in the Marvel comics, with some fantastic cliffhangers, a great read in a Reagan Economics America. I’m sure Paramount could have easily sent Snake Eyes to Paramount+. However, it’s part of a cinema franchise, and best not to tarnish that, even if there’s another, more improved G.I. Joe movie down the road. Guys at 66% showed up for Snake Eyes, with a little over half the audience being under 25, and 26% under 17, with 45% falling between 18-34 years old. Diversity demos were 42% Caucasian, 20% Black, 20% Asian/other, and 18% Latino. The West and the South were the best-grossing areas for the Robert Schwentke-directed film, with PLF and Imax repping around a third of the spinoff’s grosses. Weekend estimates for July 23-25: Old (Uni) 3,355 theaters, Fri $6.88M/3-day $15.75M/Wk 1 Snake Eyes (Par) 3,521 theaters Fri $5.5M/3-day: $14M/Wk 1 Black Widow (Dis) 4,250 theaters (-25)/Fri $3.5M (-56%)/3-day $10.86M (-58%)/Total $154M/Wk 3 |

It’s great to hear a positive response to the movie and I suspect more will like it too as more people see it than just fan boys and critics.

I'll give my point of view why a $14m opening weekend isn't fine even right now. Mortal Kombat opened on April 23rd and if I'm not mistaken theater were still at limited capacity and I think some places theaters were still closed and still made $23.3m. And let's not forget it was also released on HBO Max as well the same day. And only went on to make $42.2m domestically and $41.4 in the rest of the world. But Snake Eyes with a larger budget, theaters fully open, with more competition and no same day streaming still only is projected to make $14m. Snake Eyes will probably drop in the 60-70% range which means it will make at least $5.6m or possibly less so unless it has some good holds during the weekdays it's probably going to finish near MK21 haven't seen any number for the rest of the world but unless it does great business in the rest of the world it's not gonna come close to the $220m to break even or whatever is seen as breaking even right now. I have no idea what Paramount will consider a good enough box office but I'll be surprised it it's $50 domestically. Now if it does something like $50m Dom. and $125m in the rest of the world that might be considered good enough but we'll have to wait and see.
