I don't see this linked and don't want to click on every page. Di Bonaventura Producer interview post-trailer release.
https://www.empireonline.com/movies/...ura-exclusive/ Important points/spoilers: 1. He will not go silent/get injured in this movie. They have that planned for movie 2, assuming they get movie 2. 2. This is not a "GI Joe" movie. It is a Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow origin story that lightly introduces GI Joe/Cobra; opening the door for movie 2, which would be a "GI Joe" movie. 3. Scarlett and Baroness will not be in the film much. Their presence reinforces the #2 approach. This feels like a Solo Star Wars Story scenario where the second movie's potential is perhaps more enticing than the first. To get the second the first must succeed, which Solo did not for a variety of reasons. |

I count at least three costume changes each for Baroness and Scarlett. They might not be in it as much Storm Shadow or Snake Eyes, but these aren't like post-credits cameos either.

At least Snake Eyes is a reboot for him as a character and trying to see if they can stick the landing to lead into something bigger down the road ala what happened with Iron Man. I don't expect this to be as good as Iron Man personally, but hopefully it does well and I and others enjoy their time with the movie. |

This is what I feel is important. Supporting the brand of G.I. Joe! Even if the movie doesn't exactly appeal to you based on what you want it to be exactly, I do feel its important to support the brand, especially if we want to continue to see more figures being made. I am loving the Classified line and am interested in certain aspects of the retro line and want them to continue to make figures again. Hopefully how the figures are selling gives Hasbro a good indication that they can continue to sell more figures regardless of how the movie does. I would love to see an expanded Joe universe represented in movies and Snake Eyes may lead to that, who knows but we can hope.
Its' not that the U.S. Military is bad for kids, I think Hasbro is trying to go with a more nuanced approach regarding representing Joes as a military force. 1. They are trying to make Joes a global brand and want to appeal to as wide of an audience as possible outside of the U.S. 2. The U.S. military specifically has some problems globally with how we represent ourselves. I think outside of the U.S. we probably aren't seen as global peacekeepers we seem to think we are. And it appears we don't understand how protracted wars in foreign countries only contribute to the state of unrest we want to eradicate. 3. Hasbro is including guns (some nerf, some not) so obviously they are still military in nature maybe just not U.S. military specifically. Interesting how strange and weird the Joe fanbase is from someone coming at this from such a long hiatus. It seems that in the past people wanted to buy Joes but at discounted rates, but buy doing so ended up undermining the very product they want to thrive. Yet they don't see the contradiction of these things? I'm not saying everyone has to see the movie, but at least try to put aside personal attachments and try to step back a bit to evaluate the movie based on its own merits, as a reboot of these stories of these characters we love. Personally I've always favored Storm Shadow over Snake Eyes and am excited to see how the movie plays out. |

Better to at least think about sequels before you cut off plot threads you might want to use in them.

It's systemic racism specifically because of the message that the only stories that were ok to make were focused primarily on white characters as opposed to characters of color. Thats the point of systemic racism is that it infects every aspect of our lives and we take it for granted, except for the people who are oppressed by it.

So the idea that Larry Hama might have wanted to write a major comic book story with a major toy tie in with a leading Asian character, but couldn't because of overt pressure or implied pressure is systemic racism. Racism can take different forms and we as a society are just now trying to reconcile the truth, even though it's happened in our country since people started settling here and it continues to happen in our society in ways big and small today.

This isn't always the case. Yoda was created because they killed-off Obi-Wan at the last second.

This is going to be a pretty underwhelming Snake Eyes origin story if nothing interesting happens to him, including the things that define his backstory. |

I think thats the point though. America WAS an essential part of the IP, but Hasbro is trying to course correct so that it ISN"T such a big part of the IP going forward.
They want to catch a global market and thats what this is about. Japanese anime isn't made for America specifically, it became popular because they were good stories with amazing animation. But anime didn't really become popular until the 90s and has really taken off since. We are learning to embrace other cultures as just as important and amazing as our own. It's not like we don't have enough movies or media that represent white or American culture. It's just that G.I. Joe specifically wants to tap into other markets. I know G.I. Joe had/has a British version called Action Force. But did it have a counterpart that appealed to other ethnicities/races? No, so thats what they are trying to do now. China and other asian markets are a huge untapped potential for G.I. Joe and so they are trying to appeal to those markets too! We act like these things have to be American, when they don't. Hasbro isn't rejecting America or the U.S. Military they are trying to be more inclusive of other races, nations, cultures and broadening their appeal overall. |
