I hope this leads to renewed interest but I do hope comics, cartoons and games to follow are a bit more accurate to the source material.
But I wish well for the cast involved, and I hope we get some 4 inch figures out of this. |

I also don't see generic ninja flick with Joe names having the same mass market appeal and long lasting staying power as the awful CGI robot mess movies the Transformer films have been. |

As a TF collector, let me just say...this is completely wrong. You think the Joe line is the only one that gets screwed over by Target Exclusives. I'm sitting on five of the six Earthrise Seekers because Thrust was a Target exclusive...or so the legends go. Because he certainly never saw the light of day in an actual store.
Firmpulse's point though stands either way. The Bayverse films, as awful and corrupting as they were, have buoyed Transformer toy availability to unheard of levels, and it is the G1-inspired designs (not the Bayverse versions) that have truly benefitted.

Where the hell is Stalker in this? By going woke they've erased the brotherhood of Stalker, Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes. That was important.
The little clip of Tommy and Snake-Eyes cutting their hands and affirming their relationship IS pretty great. However they skipped over like half of Snake-Eyes' life to get there. This isn't an improvement over the original relationship, it's a diminished relationship. Why is the Hard Master the same age as Storm Shadow? I understand why he isn't a geriatric, but geez. Is that Obake Obaason in the group shot? I can identify everyone else. Storm Shadow, Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, ?, Akiko, Blind Master. This should be called "Storm Shadow" and just focus on him. The scope would be more accurate and it feels like a righteous Arashikage film honestly, just not a Snake-Eyes or GiJoe film.

As someone who read the ARAH comics till the pages fell out and wore out videotaped copies of the cartoon, this trailer didn't make the worst use of SE (even with the hero posturing). That honor still belongs to the cartoon for putting him in drag as a "straight man" for Shipwreck's one-liners. I'd have loved to see Vietnam vet SE from the early comics, but that era passed and few want to remember it well. I'll watch this flick in a year or two because it's new Joe, but I'm comfortable accepting that this, like the new Batman, is no longer intended to gain my viewing enjoyment. I'll add that the Baroness in this film seems annoying, but few people can/should play a credible sociopathic terrorist and a couple of minutes of fast-clipped shots can't determine her performance. Is this 'my' Joe? No more than the other live-action films were. But, that's okay. I have a great library and a better imagination. Enjoy if you choose to enjoy, ignore if you choose to ignore. Life's much more than this.

Looks cool but not like GI Joe, I feel like you could literally call it anything else and it would work. Ninja Guns, Motorcycle Gun Ninja, Stereotype Ninjas With Restrictive Costumes, The Real American Hero, etc.

I think it's because they want to avoid any association with the United States military, or any view of him as a soldier. When you say that having Vietnam in the story isn't plausible anymore, I agree fully with that for sure. They would have to have an updated modern conflict or even better a completely fictional conflict. I suspect greatly that this Snake-Eyes was never an American soldier at all, and am starting to wonder if the GiJoe team (here referenced as "the Joes") is even an American special forces team either. *edited to say* For what it's worth, I think this Baroness looks amazing! She might be the one draw to the film for me. I'm not even a Baroness fan generally, I think she's usually pretty shallow and tawdry and never got the character development she should have. Usually artists just treat her like a leather pin-up and never get into how terrifying her mindset really should come across. She is the defacto ideological driver of Cobra terror maybe even more than Cobra Commander, to me. This Baroness looks dope. I love the shoulder armor shape and it all. Usually I hate when they just depict her as "here's a sexy lady" because her power as a leader and a horrible person is often disregarded but I'm getting strong vibes from this actress. She seems like a proper revolutionary and leader of men.

That's exactly what they did in the 2008 Iron Man movie. And, I'd say it worked.

I agree with much of your response. GI Joe is there for brand recognition and that's fine this time around. A successful SE film opens the door for other characters and, perhaps, we'll see more traction with the Lady Jaye series because of this.
I remain hopeful that there will be a satisfying progression of SE character growth. Even if he was silent with other characters and the audience only heard his inner voice, that could have been gripping depending on the emotive and physical range of the actor (who I am not familiar with). But, to be fair, the comics didn't really go too deep with SE. Everyone bowed down to him because LH wrote them that way. No way NinjaSE would've lasted in a military unit. As for the Baroness, they seem to have toned down the looks of the actress to portray the character. If she can act the part, she'll have done more than the previous live-action "effort." I'd like to see the version that was mean enough and clever enough to double-cross everyone around her. Villains need to be villainous, not misunderstood or anti-heroes. Quote:
I agree that this isn't the worst look for Snake-Eyes, I just think they don't understand the character. This is like a new character, he's very much diminished from what he should be and they have the story already to pull from.
