Maybe that was part of it, but I think the bigger reason that occurred as the growing and continuing popularity of Classified in 2022, and even more so because of the HISS HasLab funding so quickly and so successfully. When the HISS funded, Emily and Lenny both mentioned that it would mean the line would expand and grow a lot since it meant the line's budget had been significantly raised. Same thing happened for TVC for Star Wars when the Sail Barge and Razor Crest funded too.
Never underestimate how much money the Haslabs bring in and that being a deciding factor in nixing, keeping, or expanding a line. As you point out, TVC was very much looking DoA until the Barge dropped. Now, while TBS may get more quantity, TVC is clearly getting more quality. |

Hasbro's fiscal 2022 could have been better and their 2023 was quite weak. Their strategic plan coming out of 2022 was, essentially, to focus on fewer stronger profit centers.
I hate that they're not doing retro O-Ring product but it's clearly the result of that strategy, provided the O-Ring budget was simply reallocated to Classified - given the volume of product in 2023 and 2024, it's clear they're working with a greater budget. |

Addressing both of these points, Hasbro did actually improve on the Soundwave crossover designs of Zartan and Zarana from the original sculpts. Sure, swivel wrists would be a good quality-of-life improvement, but less so than more durable thumbs and crotch pieces. They're also new points of failure, and the ankles in particular would require plastic pins - something no O-ring has at the moment. It makes sense to me that Super7 would change as little as possible as far as articulation goes if their main goal is for the figures to fit in with the toys you already have, and especially so if they don't know how far they will get whn Hasbro tires of their output.
Part of what I enjoy about the O-ring design is, at least for me, that amount of articulation is enough to get me where I need to be, and my imagination takes over the rest. It's kind of its own aesthetic. Still, when I got a few of those 2000s era O-Rings with wrist swivel and ankle hinges, it really felt like a progression (even though the sculpt style was wonky, but that's a whole other issue). These days, I'm into the retro toy aesthetic, more so than the modern "adult collectible" aesthetic. But still, some slight progression in the engineering of the figures, wouldn't hurt.

Without seeing a single o-ring release so far Super7 is light years ahead of Hasbro with the passion for the line. They also want it to be a line not a one-off just to make something. Best thing Hasbro did was license the line out.

That is how I feel also. Was excited when Hasbro announced the HasLab. Was very disappointed when I got the HasLab. The vehicle was good. The figures (minus Ramp Rat) were not good. It just re-affirms how half-assed they have been with the 3.75 inch line. They made it just to make it not because they poured heart and soul into it.

Today Hasbro announced a new O-Ring Ghostbusters 1984 4-pack and 1984 Ecto-1 for them to ride in at WonderCon today.
Quite a turn of events from the big H. |

Cool! Now cue the hopeful pleas for a Firehouse playset.

If it wasn't so dang cool, it would almost be insulting that they are making new O-Ring figures but for the wrong brand.
