Like many of you, I am a vintage OG fanatic of the Brand (specifically ARAH).
I still try to grab OG toys, I still peruse/ flip through my IDW collected reprint books and I still watch the Sunbow-run leisurely on TUBI. It takes me back in time, to a time when things were...simpler and made sense. However, I think back and I realize that there is no way allot of these things can ever be truly replicated today in these wild modern times we live in. Hasbro Classified 6 inchers and Retro O-rings are nice money spenders to fill shelves however they don't nearly tell the true story of 'how it was back in the day...' What GI Joe was all about to us 'old heads'. Let me start my list (you may add your thoughts idea's to it) 1. American Flag on the actual Toys! or proudly displayed in the actual media! Unfortunately, that idea is pretty much impossible to do today. I don't see how any global corporation can feature Old Glory un-ironically on product. 2. Straight relationships. Those days are just about done. Don't see how Snake Eyes/Scarlett or Flint/Lady Jaye or Duke/Scarlett or Destro/Baroness being paired and being *clearly implied as sleeping together*...could ever happen in today's environment. 3. White dudes 'in charge'. Nope. So... I could wildly actually totally see Scarlett being the leading lady/woman in charge of a modern GI Joe team. Would not be a terrible idea If the female lead is well developed...I don't see why that would be a problem to us OG heads. How about Roadblock or Stalker being the head honcho of a GI Joe team? The Snake Eyes movie did hint at Baroness running things for Cobra. So the concept is being developed maybe behind the scenes. 4. Certain Character Code Names like..."Skid Mark". Those names will most likely stay in the past! Any hint of a meme/joke would totally "insult sensitive people". 5. Specific OG cultural references of characters - such as Cross Country's infamous belt. Yeah, that. Long gone. 5. Cobra being a "terrorist org". Ancient history. They have been referred to as Criminal Org for at least 2 decades now. 6. Certain characters that do one simple thing. Breaker or Tele Vipers esentialy being glorified walking telephones. Anything else? |

I think most or all of these concepts are things I never consciously thought about while growing up with the cartoon or toys. So I don't think I'll miss them.
Shipwreck sexually harassing his female co-workers would never fly these days. Some of the scenes with him in the cartoon are definitely a bit cringeworthy.

1. Hooded Cobra Commander
2. Scarlett beaten and chained 3. Lady Jaye and Zaranna beach fight 4. Spirit's dialog 5. Clutch, especially during the early days. 6. Stalker being called just Stalker And, by the way, Stalker was field leader before Duke in the comics. |

Anything else? 1. O-ring Duke JUST came out with a full American flag. 2. Still happening all over the in the comic 3. Also still present all over the comic. Hawk, Duke and Flint are still listed as leadership in their profiles on gijoe.com 4. They released "Crankcase" in the walmart line. That's close enough 5.1 Not much lost there. Other characters have had their cultural background enhanced, like the excellent update they did with Spirit. 5.2 I'll give you that one, but it's been the case for 20 years now. 6. Breaker came out in Classified already. Tele-Viper is coming next year.

OP yearns for the days when everything was run by seemingly straight white males waving the American flag. Keep those women in the kitchen and blacks on the front lines. Cool.

He's not saying he agrees with it, he's saying it wouldn't happen today, and he's right about some of it.
