Maaan guys. I do think it's a little cliche to have modern day ninjas with ONLY bladed weapons and martial arts.
To be brutally honest I legit don't see why any hypothetical ninja clan that exists today wouldn't adopt firearms in addition to their more traditional weapons. SMGs have gotten ridiculously small and potent, and when you're rocking something like a P90, you have a ridiculous capacity as well. It's not like suppressors aren't a thing either. I mean, during the rule of Nobunaga guns became a core weapon that both samurai and ashigaru were actively trained in. In the Battle of Nagashino in 1575, 3000 Nobunaga gunmen destroyed the powerful and much feared Takeda cavalry, utterly trashing the formerly powerful clan and eliminating Nobunaga's last obstacle to ruling Japan. Duruing the 1592 Japanese invasion of Korea, a full quarter of the 160,000 Japanese warriors sent to Busan were armed with Tanegashima. The utter shock of guns was so successful in those early days that Japan had taken Seoul in just 18 days after the initial invasion. So guns and Japanese warfare are literally tied hip to hip. For a hundred or so years it literally invalidated the need for Samurai to learn archery. Leave archery to the Ashigaru. Samurai trained extensively in the usage of Tanegashima as well as their other weapons. It's very plausible that any hypothetical ninja clan would modernize and use technological advancements to be even better at their craft. |

A lot of the Arashikage is rooted in orientalism tropes that were still fairly in vogue in the late 70's/early 80's. So yeah, they're still medieval-esque "Traditional" Ninjas despite what pragmatism might suggest (even Tommy mostly-though-not-completely-eschewed firearms for his bow and arrows in Vietnam). The Night Creepers were portrayed as being kind of dirty and dishonorable for adapting to modern technology. I get the impression that not a ton has changed on that score with the new movie. |

You already made your mind up that you wouldn't like the film before the clip was even released. Your earlier posts indicate that. There's no way to tell much of anything from such a short clip.
And if you think Larry Hama has only been working on GI Joe for this long just for a paycheck, then perhaps you should win the award for the dumbest post of the year instead of the day. Last edited by Formulazl1; 05-20-2021 at 09:29 PM.. |

Ozzie92 and Briking: I did made up my mind that I am not going to watch this movie at the theater based on my impression of the trailer. And yes I can absolutely form an opinion based on a 60 second trailer. It is my opinion and it is not up for debate, just like your opinion on the post is not up for debate. I hope you both watch the film and love it, and then tell everyone how dumb and premature the post was. But based on that trailer, I am not interested in watching that movie.

No, you can’t possibly discern the things that you claimed to discern in a 60 second trailer. The idea that you CAN is entirely up for debate.

Back in the "old days" that was kind of the Night Creepers' shtick (which almost makes me wonder if those guys in the pics above may actually be Night Creepers): They were Ninjas who blended old-school Ninjitsu with modern technology.

The Battle Action Force version had Storm Shadow's clan (not the Arashikage) very much as assassins. As part of that Storm Shadow's origin it showed his first mission for the clan to kill a shipping tycoon. |
